Ma’arat HaMachpela – The Tomb of the Patriarchs bought by Avraham Avinu (Abraham our Father) – the first Jewish transaction in the Land of Israel – final resting place of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Sarah, Rebecca, and Leah. The building atop the caves was built by Herod, King of Judea, 2,000 years ago.

Hebron was once the seat of Israel, King David ruled from this town before moving the capital to Jerusalem. Hebron is a major religious site for Moslems and Jews. The city of Hebron dates to before the time of Avraham Avinu and also is known by the name of Qiryat Arba. Jews lived in Hebron proper until the massacre of 1929 ce. There are still a few Jewish people in Hebron, however they are being forced to defend their homes against the Palestinian Arabs.
