Elul is the twelfth month of the Jewish civil year and the sixth month of the ecclesiastical year on the Hebrew calendar. Elul has 29 Days in it. Elul usually occurs in August – September on the civil calendar.
Elul has no holidays in it (except for Shabbat). It is a whole month that is in preparation for the high holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. All month we sound the shofar to wake us up and remind us that the high holidays are coming up.
