10:35
When the Ark went forth, Moses said, ‘Arise, O God, and scatter your enemies! Let your foes flee before You!’
Vayehi binsoa ha’aron vayomer Moshe kumah Adonay veyafutsu oyeveycha veyanusu mesan’eycha mipaneycha.
וַיְהִי בִּנְסֹעַ הָאָרֹן, וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה: קוּמָה יְהוָה, וְיָפֻצוּ אֹיְבֶיךָ, וְיָנֻסוּ מְשַׂנְאֶיךָ, מִפָּנֶיךָ.

10:36
When it came to rest, he said, ‘Return, O God, [to] the myriads of Israel’s thousands.’
Uvenuchoh yomar shuvah Adonay rivavot alfey Yisra’el.
וּבְנֻחֹה, יֹאמַר: שׁוּבָה יְהוָה, רִבְבוֹת אַלְפֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל.

11:1
The people began to complain, and it was evil in God’s ears. When God heard it, He displayed His anger, and God’s fire flared out, consuming the edge of the camp.
Vayehi ha’am kemit’onenim ra be’ozney Adonay vayishma Adonay vayichar apo vativ’ar-bam esh Adonay vatochal biktseh hamachaneh.
וַיְהִי הָעָם כְּמִתְאֹנְנִים, רַע בְּאָזְנֵי יְהוָה; וַיִּשְׁמַע יְהוָה, וַיִּחַר אַפּוֹ, וַתִּבְעַר-בָּם אֵשׁ יְהוָה, וַתֹּאכַל בִּקְצֵה הַמַּחֲנֶה.

11:2
The people cried out to Moses, and when Moses prayed to God, the fire died down.
Vayits’ak ha’am el-Moshe vayitpalel Moshe el-Adonay vatishka ha’esh.
וַיִּצְעַק הָעָם, אֶל-מֹשֶׁה; וַיִּתְפַּלֵּל מֹשֶׁה אֶל-יְהוָה, וַתִּשְׁקַע הָאֵשׁ.

11:3
He named the place ‘Burning’ (Tabh’erah), for God’s fire had burned them.
Vayikra shem-hamakom hahu Tav’erah ki-va’arah vam esh Adonay.
וַיִּקְרָא שֵׁם-הַמָּקוֹם הַהוּא, תַּבְעֵרָה: כִּי-בָעֲרָה בָם, אֵשׁ יְהוָה.

11:4
The mixed multitude among [the Israelites) began to have strong cravings, and the Israelites once again began to weep. ‘Who’s going to give us some meat to eat?’ they demanded.
Vehasafsuf asher bekirbo hit’avu ta’avah vayashuvu vayivku gam beney Yisra’el vayomeru mi ya’achilenu basar.
וְהָאסַפְסֻף אֲשֶׁר בְּקִרְבּוֹ, הִתְאַוּוּ תַּאֲוָה; וַיָּשֻׁבוּ וַיִּבְכּוּ, גַּם בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, וַיֹּאמְרוּ, מִי יַאֲכִלֵנוּ בָּשָׂר.

11:5
‘We fondly remember the fish that we could eat in Egypt at no cost, along with the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic.
Zacharnu et-hadagah asher-nochal beMitsrayim chinam et hakishu’im ve’et ha’avatichim ve’et-hechatsir ve’et-habetsalim ve’et-hashumim.
זָכַרְנוּ, אֶת-הַדָּגָה, אֲשֶׁר-נֹאכַל בְּמִצְרַיִם, חִנָּם; אֵת הַקִּשֻּׁאִים, וְאֵת הָאֲבַטִּחִים, וְאֶת-הֶחָצִיר וְאֶת-הַבְּצָלִים, וְאֶת-הַשּׁוּמִים.

11:6
But now our spirits are dried up, with nothing but the manna before our eyes.’
Ve’atah nafshenu yeveshah eyn kol bilti el-haman eyneynu.
וְעַתָּה נַפְשֵׁנוּ יְבֵשָׁה, אֵין כֹּל–בִּלְתִּי, אֶל-הַמָּן עֵינֵינוּ.

11:7
The manna was like coriander seed with a pearl-like luster.
Vehaman kizra-gad hu ve’eyno ke’eyn habedolach.
וְהַמָּן, כִּזְרַע-גַּד הוּא; וְעֵינוֹ, כְּעֵין הַבְּדֹלַח.

11:8
The people could simply go for a stroll and gather it. They would then grind it in a hand-mill or crush it in a mortar, cooking it in a pan and making it into cakes. It tasted like an oil wafer.
Shatu ha’am velaktu vetachanu varechayim o dachu bamedochah uvishlu baparur ve’asu oto ugot vehayah tamo keta’am leshad hashamen.
שָׁטוּ הָעָם וְלָקְטוּ וְטָחֲנוּ בָרֵחַיִם, אוֹ דָכוּ בַּמְּדֹכָה, וּבִשְּׁלוּ בַּפָּרוּר, וְעָשׂוּ אֹתוֹ עֻגוֹת; וְהָיָה טַעְמוֹ, כְּטַעַם לְשַׁד הַשָּׁמֶן.

11:9
At night, when the dew would fall on the camp, the manna would descend on it.
Uveredet hatal al-hamachaneh laylah yered haman alav.
וּבְרֶדֶת הַטַּל עַל-הַמַּחֲנֶה, לָיְלָה, יֵרֵד הַמָּן, עָלָיו.

11:10
Moses heard the people weeping with their families near the entrances of their tents. God became very angry, and Moses [also] considered it wrong.
Vayishma Moshe et-ha’am bocheh lemishpechotav ish lefetach aholo vayichar-af Adonay me’od uve’eyney Moshe ra.
וַיִּשְׁמַע מֹשֶׁה אֶת-הָעָם, בֹּכֶה לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָיו–אִישׁ, לְפֶתַח אָהֳלוֹ; וַיִּחַר-אַף יְהוָה מְאֹד, וּבְעֵינֵי מֹשֶׁה רָע.

11:11
‘Why are You treating me so badly?’ said Moses to God. ‘Don’t you like me any more? Why do You place such a burden upon me?
Vayomer Moshe el-Adonay lamah hare’ota le’avdecha velamah lo-matsati chen be’eyneycha lasum et-masa kol-ha’am hazeh alay.
וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה אֶל-יְהוָה, לָמָה הֲרֵעֹתָ לְעַבְדֶּךָ, וְלָמָּה לֹא-מָצָתִי חֵן, בְּעֵינֶיךָ: לָשׂוּם, אֶת-מַשָּׂא כָּל-הָעָם הַזֶּה–עָלָי.

11:12
Was I [the woman] who was pregnant with this nation [in my belly?] Did I give birth to them? But You told me that I must carry them in my bosom, as a nurse carries an infant [until we come] to the land that You swore to their ancestors.
He’anochi hariti et kol-ha’am hazeh im-anochi yelidetihu ki-tomar elay sa’ehu vecheykecha ka’asher yisa ha’omen et-hayonek al ha’adamah asher nishbata la’avotav.
הֶאָנֹכִי הָרִיתִי, אֵת כָּל-הָעָם הַזֶּה–אִם-אָנֹכִי, יְלִדְתִּיהוּ: כִּי-תֹאמַר אֵלַי שָׂאֵהוּ בְחֵיקֶךָ, כַּאֲשֶׁר יִשָּׂא הָאֹמֵן אֶת-הַיֹּנֵק, עַל הָאֲדָמָה, אֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּעְתָּ לַאֲבֹתָיו.

11:13
‘Where can I get enough meat to give all these people? They are whining to me to give them some meat to eat.
Me’ayin li basar latet lechol-ha’am hazeh ki-yivku alay lemor tnah-lanu vasar venochelah.
מֵאַיִן לִי בָּשָׂר, לָתֵת לְכָל-הָעָם הַזֶּה: כִּי-יִבְכּוּ עָלַי לֵאמֹר, תְּנָה-לָּנוּ בָשָׂר וְנֹאכֵלָה.

11:14
I cannot be responsible for this entire nation! It’s too hard for me!
Lo-uchal anochi levadi laset et-kol-ha’am hazeh ki chaved mimeni.
לֹא-אוּכַל אָנֹכִי לְבַדִּי, לָשֵׂאת אֶת-כָּל-הָעָם הַזֶּה: כִּי כָבֵד, מִמֶּנִּי.

11:15
If You are going to do this to me, just do me a favor and kill me! Don’t let me see myself get into such a terrible predicament.
Ve’im-kachah at-oseh li horgeni na harog im-matsati chen be’eyneycha ve’al-er’eh bera’ati.
וְאִם-כָּכָה אַתְּ-עֹשֶׂה לִּי, הָרְגֵנִי נָא הָרֹג–אִם-מָצָאתִי חֵן, בְּעֵינֶיךָ; וְאַל-אֶרְאֶה, בְּרָעָתִי.

11:16
God said to Moses, ‘Assemble seventy of Israel’s elders – the ones you know to be the people’s elders and leaders. Bring them to the Communion Tent, and let them stand there with you.
Vayomer Adonay el-Moshe esfah-li shiv’im ish mizikney Yisra’el asher yadata ki-hem zikney ha’am veshotrav velakachta otam el-Ohel Mo’ed vehityatsvu sham imach.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, אֶסְפָה-לִּי שִׁבְעִים אִישׁ מִזִּקְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, אֲשֶׁר יָדַעְתָּ, כִּי-הֵם זִקְנֵי הָעָם וְשֹׁטְרָיו; וְלָקַחְתָּ אֹתָם אֶל-אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד, וְהִתְיַצְּבוּ שָׁם עִמָּךְ.

11:17
When I lower My essence and speak to you there, I will cause some of the spirit that you possess to emanate, and I will grant it to them. You will then not have to bear the responsibility all alone.
Veyaradeti vedibarti imcha sham ve’atsalti min-haruach asher aleycha vesamti aleyhem venas’u itcha bemasa ha’am velo-tisa atah levadecha.
וְיָרַדְתִּי, וְדִבַּרְתִּי עִמְּךָ שָׁם, וְאָצַלְתִּי מִן-הָרוּחַ אֲשֶׁר עָלֶיךָ, וְשַׂמְתִּי עֲלֵיהֶם; וְנָשְׂאוּ אִתְּךָ בְּמַשָּׂא הָעָם, וְלֹא-תִשָּׂא אַתָּה לְבַדֶּךָ.

11:18
‘Tell the people as follows: Prepare yourselves for tomorrow, for you will then have meat to eat. You have been whining in God’s ears, saying, ‘Who’s going to give us some meat to eat? It was better for us in Egypt!’ Now God is going to give you meat, and you will have to eat it.
Ve’el-ha’am tomar hitkadeshu lemachar va’achaltem basar ki bechitem be’ozney Adonay lemor mi ya’achilenu basar ki-tov lanu beMitsrayim venatan Adonay lachem basar va’achaltem.
וְאֶל-הָעָם תֹּאמַר הִתְקַדְּשׁוּ לְמָחָר, וַאֲכַלְתֶּם בָּשָׂר–כִּי בְּכִיתֶם בְּאָזְנֵי יְהוָה לֵאמֹר מִי יַאֲכִלֵנוּ בָּשָׂר, כִּי-טוֹב לָנוּ בְּמִצְרָיִם; וְנָתַן יְהוָה לָכֶם בָּשָׂר, וַאֲכַלְתֶּם.

11:19
You will eat it not for one day, not for two days, not for five days, not for ten days, and not for twenty days.
Lo yom echad tochlun velo yomayim velo chamishah yamim velo asarah yamim velo esrim yom.
לֹא יוֹם אֶחָד תֹּאכְלוּן, וְלֹא יוֹמָיִם; וְלֹא חֲמִשָּׁה יָמִים, וְלֹא עֲשָׂרָה יָמִים, וְלֹא, עֶשְׂרִים יוֹם.

11:20
But for a full month [you will eat it] until it is coming out of your nose and making you nauseated. This is because you rejected God [now that He] is among you, and you whined before Him, ‘Why did we ever leave Egypt?’ ‘
Ad chodesh yamim ad asher-yetse me’apchem vehayah lachem lezara ya’an ki-me’astem et-Adonay asher bekirbechem vativku lefanav lemor lamah zeh yatsanu miMitsrayim.
עַד חֹדֶשׁ יָמִים, עַד אֲשֶׁר-יֵצֵא מֵאַפְּכֶם, וְהָיָה לָכֶם, לְזָרָא: יַעַן, כִּי-מְאַסְתֶּם אֶת-יְהוָה אֲשֶׁר בְּקִרְבְּכֶם, וַתִּבְכּוּ לְפָנָיו לֵאמֹר, לָמָּה זֶּה יָצָאנוּ מִמִּצְרָיִם.

11:21
Moses said, ‘Here I am among 600,000 men on foot [alone], and You are saying that You will give them enough meat to eat for a full month!
Vayomer Moshe shesh-me’ot elef ragli ha’am asher anochi bekirbo ve’atah amarta basar eten lahem ve’achlu chodesh yamim.
וַיֹּאמֶר, מֹשֶׁה, שֵׁשׁ-מֵאוֹת אֶלֶף רַגְלִי, הָעָם אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי בְּקִרְבּוֹ; וְאַתָּה אָמַרְתָּ, בָּשָׂר אֶתֵּן לָהֶם, וְאָכְלוּ, חֹדֶשׁ יָמִים.

11:22
Even if all the cattle and sheep were slaughtered, could there be enough for them? If all the fish in the sea were caught, would it be sufficient?’
Hatson uvakar yishachet lahem umatsa lahem im et-kol-degey hayam ye’asef lahem umatsa lahem.
הֲצֹאן וּבָקָר יִשָּׁחֵט לָהֶם, וּמָצָא לָהֶם; אִם אֶת-כָּל-דְּגֵי הַיָּם יֵאָסֵף לָהֶם, וּמָצָא לָהֶם.

11:23
God said to Moses, ‘Has My power then become limited? You will now see whether or not My word will come true!
Vayomer Adonay el-Moshe hayad Adonay tiktsar atah tir’eh hayikrecha devari im-lo.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, הֲיַד יְהוָה תִּקְצָר; עַתָּה תִרְאֶה הֲיִקְרְךָ דְבָרִי, אִם-לֹא.

11:24
Moses went out and told the people what God had said. He gathered seventy of the people’s elders, and stood them around the Tent.
Vayetse Moshe vayedaber el-ha’am et divrey Adonay vaye’esof shiv’im ish mizikney ha’am vaya’amed otam sevivot ha’ohel.
וַיֵּצֵא מֹשֶׁה–וַיְדַבֵּר אֶל-הָעָם, אֵת דִּבְרֵי יְהוָה; וַיֶּאֱסֹף שִׁבְעִים אִישׁ, מִזִּקְנֵי הָעָם, וַיַּעֲמֵד אֹתָם, סְבִיבֹת הָאֹהֶל.

11:25
God descended in the cloud, and spoke to [Moses]. He caused the spirit that had been imparted on [Moses] to emanate, and He bestowed it upon the seventy elders. When the spirit descended on them, they gained the gift of prophecy and did not lose it.
Vayered Adonay be’anan vayedaber elav vayatsel min-haruach asher alav vayiten al-shiv’im ish hazkenim vayehi kenoach aleyhem haruach vayitnabe’u velo yasafu.
וַיֵּרֶד יְהוָה בֶּעָנָן, וַיְדַבֵּר אֵלָיו, וַיָּאצֶל מִן-הָרוּחַ אֲשֶׁר עָלָיו, וַיִּתֵּן עַל-שִׁבְעִים אִישׁ הַזְּקֵנִים; וַיְהִי, כְּנוֹחַ עֲלֵיהֶם הָרוּחַ, וַיִּתְנַבְּאוּ, וְלֹא יָסָפוּ.

11:26
Two men remained in the camp, and the spirit [also] rested on them. The name of one was Eldad, and the name of the second was Medad. Although they were among those registered, they did not go out to the [Communion] Tent, but they spoke prophetically in the camp.
Vayisha’aru shney-anashim bamachaneh shem ha’echad Eldad veshem hasheni Meydad vatanach alehem haruach vehemah baktuvim velo yats’u ha’ohelah vayitnabe’u bamachaneh.
וַיִּשָּׁאֲרוּ שְׁנֵי-אֲנָשִׁים בַּמַּחֲנֶה שֵׁם הָאֶחָד אֶלְדָּד וְשֵׁם הַשֵּׁנִי מֵידָד וַתָּנַח עֲלֵהֶם הָרוּחַ, וְהֵמָּה בַּכְּתֻבִים, וְלֹא יָצְאוּ, הָאֹהֱלָה; וַיִּתְנַבְּאוּ, בַּמַּחֲנֶה.

11:27
A young man ran to tell Moses. ‘Eldad and Medad are speaking prophecy in the camp!’ he announced.
Vayarots hana’ar vayaged le-Moshe vayomar Eldad uMeydad mitnabe’im bamachaneh.
וַיָּרָץ הַנַּעַר, וַיַּגֵּד לְמֹשֶׁה וַיֹּאמַר: אֶלְדָּד וּמֵידָד, מִתְנַבְּאִים בַּמַּחֲנֶה.

11:28
Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ chosen attendant, spoke up. ‘My lord Moses,’ he said. ‘Stop them!’
Vaya’an Yehoshua bin-Nun mesharet Moshe mibechurav vayomar adoni Moshe kla’em.
וַיַּעַן יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בִּן-נוּן, מְשָׁרֵת מֹשֶׁה מִבְּחֻרָיו–וַיֹּאמַר: אֲדֹנִי מֹשֶׁה, כְּלָאֵם.

11:29
‘Are you jealous for my sake?’ replied Moses. ‘I only wish that all of God’s people would have the gift of prophecy! Let God grant His spirit to them [all]!’
Vayomer lo Moshe hamekane atah li umi yiten kol-am Adonay nevi’im ki-yiten Adonay et-rucho aleyhem.
וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ מֹשֶׁה, הַמְקַנֵּא אַתָּה לִי; וּמִי יִתֵּן כָּל-עַם יְהוָה, נְבִיאִים–כִּי-יִתֵּן יְהוָה אֶת-רוּחוֹ, עֲלֵיהֶם.
