Haftara BeHa’alothekha

Zechariah 2.14-4.7

Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion; for I am coming, and I will dwell in your midst, says God. Many nations will join themselves to God on that day, and will be My people, and I will dwell in your midst; and you will know that the Lord of hosts as sent me to you. And God will inherit Judah as His portion in the hold land, and will again choose Jerusalem.

Be silent, all flesh, before God; for He has roused Himself from his holy habitation.

Then he showed me Joshua, the High Priest, standing before God’s angel, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him.

And God said to Satan, “God rebukes you, O Satan; God who has chosen Jerusalem rebukes you. Is not man a brand plucked from the fire?”

Now Joshua was standing before the angel, dressed in filthy garments.

So he said to those who stood before him, “Take off his filthy garments.” And he said to him, “Behold, I remove you from your iniquity and I will clothe you with robes.”

And I said, “Let them set a clean turban on his head.” So they set a clean turban on his head, and clothed him with garments; and God’s angel stood by.

God’s angel charged Joshua, saying; Thus says the Lord of Hosts: If you will walk in My ways, and keep My charge, you will also judge My house, and keep My courts, I will give you free access among these who are standing by. Pay attention, Joshua the High Priest, and you and your friends who sit before you; for they are men of good omen; behold, I will bring forth My servant, the Shoot. For, behold, the stone that I have laid before Joshua; on one stone are seven facets,. Behold, I will engrave its inscriptions on it, says the Lord of Hosts; and I will remove the iniquity of the land in one day. One that day, says the Lord of Hosts, every man will invite his neighbor to come under the vine and under the fig tree.

The angel who talked with me returned, and woke me, like a man who is awakened from his sleep.

He said to me: “What did you see?” And I said: “I have seen, and behold, a golden candlestick, with a bowl on top of it, and seven lamps on it, with seven  pipes to the lamps, which are on top of it; There are two olive trees upon it, one on the right side of the bowl and the other on the left side.” I said to the angel that spoke to me, “What are these my master?”

He responded; “This is God’s word to Zerubbabel, saying: Not by might, nor by power, but by My spirit, says the Lord of Hosts. Who are you, O great mountain, before Zerubbabel? You will become a plain; and he will produce the headstone with shouts of, Grace, grace, to it.”
