27:6
God spoke to Moses, saying:

Vayomer Adonay el-Moshe lemor.

27:7
The daughters of Tzelafchad have a just claim. Give them a hereditary portion of land alongside their father’s brothers. Let their father’s hereditary property thus pass over to them.

Ken benot Tslofchad dovrot naton titen lahem achuzat nachalah betoch achey avihem veha’avarta et-nachalat avihen lahen.

27:8
Speak to the Israelites and tell them that if a man dies and has no son, his hereditary property shall pass over to his daughter.

Ve’el-beney Yisra’el tedaber lemor ish ki-yamut uven eyn lo veha’avartem et-nachalato levito.

27:9
If he has no daughter, then his hereditary property shall be given to his brothers.

Ve’im-eyn lo bat unetatem et-nachalato le’echav.

27:10
If he has no brothers, you shall give his property to his father’s brothers.

Ve’im-eyn lo achim unetatem et-nachalato la’achey aviv.

27:11
If his father had no brothers, then you shall give his property to the closest relative in his family, who shall then be his heir. This was the decreed law for the Israelites, as God had commanded Moses.

Ve’im-eyn achim le’aviv unetatem et-nachalato lish’ero hakarov elav mimishpachto veyarash otah vehayetah livney Yisra’el lechukat mishpat ka’asher tsivah Adonay et-Moshe.

27:12
God said to Moses, ‘Climb up to the Avarim Mountain where you will be able to see the land that I am giving to the Israelites.

Vayomer Adonay el-Moshe aleh el-har ha’Avarim hazeh ur’eh et-ha’arets asher natati livney Yisra’el.

27:13
After you see it, you will be gathered up to your people, just as your brother Aaron was.

Vera’itah otah vene’esafta el-ameycha gam-atah ka’asher ne’esaf Aharon achicha.

27:14
When the community disputed God in the Tzin Desert, you disobeyed My commandment [when you were] to sanctify Me before their eyes with the water.’ [God was speaking] of the Waters of Dispute (Mey Meribhah) at Kadesh in the Tzin Desert.

Ka’asher meritem pi bemidbar-Tsin bimerivat ha’edah lehakdisheni vamayim le’eyneyhem hem mey-Merivat Kadesh midbar-Tsin.

27:15
Moses spoke to God, saying,

Vayedaber Moshe el-Adonay lemor.

27:16
‘Let the Omnipotent God of all living souls appoint a man over the community.

Yifkod Adonay Elohey haruchot lechol-basar ish al-ha’edah.

27:17
Let him come and go before them, and let him bring them forth and lead them. Let God’s community not be like sheep that have no shepherd.’

Asher-yetse lifneyhem va’asher yavo lifneyhem va’asher yotsi’em va’asher yevi’em velo tihyeh adat Adonay katson asher eyn-lahem ro’eh.

27:18
God said to Moses, ‘Take Joshua son of Nun, a man of spirit, and lay your hands on him.

Vayomer Adonay el-Moshe kach-lecha et-Yehoshua bin-Nun ish asher-ruach bo vesamachta et-yadecha alav.

27:19
Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and before the entire community, and let them see you commission him.

Veha’amadeta oto lifney El’azar hakohen velifney kol-ha’edah vetsivitah oto le’eyneyhem.

27:20
Invest him with some of your splendor so that the entire Israelite community will obey him.

Venatatah mehodcha alav lema’an yishme’u kol-adat beney Yisra’el.

27:21
Let him stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall seek the decision of the Urim before God on his behalf. By this word [Joshua], along with all the Israelites and the entire community shall come and go.’

Velifney El’azar hakohen ya’amod vesha’al lo bemishpat ha’urim lifney Adonay al-piv yets’u ve’al-piv yavo’u hu vechol-beney-Yisra’el ito vechol-ha’edah.

27:22
Moses did as God had ordered him. He took Joshua and had him stand before Eleazar the priest and before the entire community.

Vaya’as Moshe ka’asher tsivah Adonay oto vayikach et-Yehoshua vaya’amidehu lifney El’azar hakohen velifney kol-ha’edah.

27:23
He then laid his hands on him and commissioned him. [It was all done] as God had commanded Moses.

Vayismoch et-yadav alav vayetsavehu ka’asher diber Adonay beyad-Moshe.
