14:8
If God is satisfied with us and brings us to this land, He can give it to us – a land flowing with milk and honey.

Im-chafets banu Adonay vehevi otanu el-ha’arets hazot unetanah lanu erets asher-hi zavat chalav udvash.

14:9
But don’t rebel against God! Don’t be afraid of the people in the land! They have lost their protection and shall be our prey! God is with us, so don’t be afraid!’

Ach b’Adonay al-timrodu ve’atem al-tir’u et-am ha’arets ki lachmenu hem sar tsilam me’aleyhem v’Adonay itanu al-tira’um.

14:10
The whole community was threatening to stone them to death, when God’s glory suddenly appeared at the Communion Tent before all the Israelites.

Vayomeru kol-ha’edah lirgom otam ba’avanim uchevod Adonay nir’ah be’Ohel Mo’ed el-kol-beney Yisra’el.

14:11
God said to Moses, ‘How long shall this nation continue to provoke Me? How long will they not believe in Me, despite all the miracles that I have done among them?

Vayomer Adonay el-Moshe ad-anah yena’atsuni ha’am hazeh ve’ad-anah lo-ya’aminu vi bechol ha’otot asher asiti bekirbo.

14:12
I will kill them with a plague and annihilate them. Then I will make you into a greater, more powerful nation then they.’

Akenu vadever ve’orishenu ve’e’eseh otecha legoy-gadol ve’atsum mimenu.

14:13
Moses replied to God, ‘And what will happen when the Egyptians hear about it? You have brought this nation out from among them with Your great power!

Vayomer Moshe el-Adonay veshame’u Mitsrayim ki-he’elita vechochacha et-ha’am hazeh mikirbo.

14:14
And what if they tell the people who live in this land? They have heard that You, God, have been with this nation [Israel]. You, God, have revealed Yourself to them face to face, and Your cloud stands over them. You go before them in a pillar of cloud by day, and a pillar of fire at night.

Ve’amru el-yoshev ha’arets hazot shame’u ki-atah Adonay bekerev ha’am hazeh asher-ayin be’ayin nir’ah atah Adonay va’anancha omed alehem uve’amud anan atah holech lifneyhem yomam uve’amud esh laylah.

14:15
‘Now you want to kill this [entire] nation like a single man! The nations who hear this news about You will say that

Vehematah et-ha’am hazeh ke’ish echad ve’amru hagoyim asher-sham’u et-shim’acha lemor.

14:16
God was not able to bring this nation to the land that He swore to them, so He slaughtered them in the desert.

Mibilti yecholet Adonay lehavi et-ha’am hazeh el-ha’arets asher-nishba lahem vayishchatem bamidbar.

14:17
‘Now, O God, is the time for You to exercise even more restraint. You once declared,

Ve’atah yigdal-na ko’ach Adonay ka’asher dibarta lemor.

14:18
‘God is slow to anger, great in love, and forgiving of sin and rebellion. He does not clear [those who do not repent], but keeps in mind the sins of the fathers for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.’

Adonay erech apayim verav-chesed nose avon vafasha venakeh lo yenakeh poked avon avot al-banim al-shileshim ve’al-ribe’im.

14:19
‘With Your great love, forgive the sin of this nation, just as You have forgiven them from [the time they left] Egypt until now.’

Slach-na la’avon ha’am hazeh kegodel chasdecha vecha’asher nasatah la’am hazeh miMitsrayim ve’ad-henah.

14:20
God said, ‘I will grant forgiveness as you have requested.

Vayomer Adonay salachti kidvarecha.

14:21
But as I am Life, and as God’s glory fills all the world,

Ve’ulam chay-ani veyimale chvod-Adonay et-kol-ha’arets.

14:22
[I will punish] all the people who saw My glory and the miracles that I did in Egypt and the desert, but still tried to test Me these ten times by not obeying Me.

Ki chol-ha’anashim haro’im et-kvodi ve’et-ototay asher-asiti veMitsrayim uvamidbar vayenasu oti zeh eser pe’amim velo sham’u bekoli.

14:23
They will therefore not see the land that I swore to their ancestors. All those who provoked Me will not see it.

Im-yir’u et-ha’arets asher nishbati la’avotam vechol-mena’atsay lo yir’uha.

14:24
‘The only exception will be My servant Caleb, since he showed a different spirit and followed Me wholeheartedly. I will bring him to the land that he explored, and his descendants will possess it.

Ve’avdi Chalev ekev hayetah ruach acheret imo vayemale acharay vahavi’otiv el-ha’arets asher-ba shamah vezar’o yorishenah.

14:25
‘The Amalekites and Canaanites are living in the valley. Tomorrow you will have to leave this place and strike out into the desert toward the Red Sea.’
