Miketz (מִקֵּץ)

Genesis 41:1 – 44:17

Maftir

44:14
When Judah and his brothers came to Joseph’s palace, he was still there. They threw themselves on the ground before him.
Vayavo Yehudah ve’echav beytah Yosef vehu odenu sham vayiplu lefanav artsah.

44:15
Joseph said to them, ‘What did you think you were doing? Don’t you realize that a person like me can determine the truth by divination?’
Vayomer lahem Yosef mah-hama’aseh hazeh asher asitem halo yedatem ki-nachesh yenachesh ish asher kamoni.

44:16
‘What can we say to my lord?’ replied Judah. ‘How can we speak? How can we prove our innocence? God has uncovered our old guilt. Let us be your slaves – we and the one in whose possession the chalice was found.’
Vayomer Yehudah mah-nomar ladoni mah-nedaber umah-nitstadak ha’Elohim matsa et-avon avadeycha hinenu avadim l’adoni gam-anachnu gam asher-nimtsa hagavia beyado.

44:17
‘Heaven forbid that I do that!’ said [Joseph] ‘The one in whose possession the chalice was found shall be my slave. [The rest of] you can go in peace to your father.’
Vayomer chalilah li me’asot zot ha’ish asher nimtsa hagavia beyado hu yihyeh-li aved ve’atem alu leshalom el-avichem.
