48:17
When Joseph saw that his father had placed his right hand on Ephraim’s head, he was displeased. He tried to lift his father’s hand from Ephraim’s head and place it on Manasseh’s.
Vayar Yosef ki-yashit aviv yad-yemino al-rosh Efrayim vayera be’eynav vayitmoch yad-aviv lehasir otah me’al rosh-Efrayim al-rosh Menasheh.
וַיַּרְא יוֹסֵף, כִּי-יָשִׁית אָבִיו יַד-יְמִינוֹ עַל-רֹאשׁ אֶפְרַיִם–וַיֵּרַע בְּעֵינָיו; וַיִּתְמֹךְ יַד-אָבִיו, לְהָסִיר אֹתָהּ מֵעַל רֹאשׁ-אֶפְרַיִם–עַל-רֹאשׁ מְנַשֶּׁה.
 

48:18
‘That’s not the way it should be done, Father,’ said Joseph. ‘The other one is the first-born. Place your right hand on his head.’
Vayomer Yosef el-aviv lo-chen avi ki-zeh habechor sim yemincha al-rosho.
וַיֹּאמֶר יוֹסֵף אֶל-אָבִיו, לֹא-כֵן אָבִי: כִּי-זֶה הַבְּכֹר, שִׂים יְמִינְךָ עַל-רֹאשׁוֹ.
 

48:19
His father refused and said, ‘I know, my son, I know. [The older one] will also become a nation. He too will attain greatness. But his younger brother will become even greater, and his descendants will become full-fledged nations.’
Vayema’en aviv vayomer yadati vni yadati gam-hu yihyeh-le’am vegam-hu yigdal ve’ulam achiv hakaton yigdal mimenu vezar’o yihyeh melo-hagoyim
וַיְמָאֵן אָבִיו, וַיֹּאמֶר יָדַעְתִּי בְנִי יָדַעְתִּי–גַּם-הוּא יִהְיֶה-לְּעָם, וְגַם-הוּא יִגְדָּל; וְאוּלָם, אָחִיו הַקָּטֹן יִגְדַּל מִמֶּנּוּ, וְזַרְעוֹ, יִהְיֶה מְלֹא-הַגּוֹיִם.
 

48:20
On that day [Jacob] blessed them. He said, ‘[In time to come] Israel will use you as a blessing. They will say, ‘May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh.’ ‘ He [deliberately] put Ephraim before Manasseh.
Vayevarechem bayom hahu lemor becha yevarech Yisra’el lemor yesimcha Elohim ke’Efrayim vechiMenasheh vayasem et-Efrayim lifney Menasheh.
וַיְבָרְכֵם בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא, לֵאמוֹר, בְּךָ יְבָרֵךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל לֵאמֹר, יְשִׂמְךָ אֱלֹהִים כְּאֶפְרַיִם וְכִמְנַשֶּׁה; וַיָּשֶׂם אֶת-אֶפְרַיִם, לִפְנֵי מְנַשֶּׁה.
 

48:21
Israel said to Joseph, ‘I am dying. God will be with you, and He will bring you back to your ancestral land.
Vayomer Yisra’el el-Yosef hineh anochi met vehayah Elohim imachem veheshiv etchem el-erets avoteychem.
וַיֹּאמֶר יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶל-יוֹסֵף, הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי מֵת; וְהָיָה אֱלֹהִים, עִמָּכֶם, וְהֵשִׁיב אֶתְכֶם, אֶל-אֶרֶץ אֲבֹתֵיכֶם.
 

48:22
In addition to what your brothers shall share, I am giving you Shechem, which I took from the Amorite with my sword and bow.’
Va’ani natati lecha Shchem achad al-acheycha asher lakachti miyad ha’Emori becharbi uvekashti.
וַאֲנִי נָתַתִּי לְךָ, שְׁכֶם אַחַד–עַל-אַחֶיךָ: אֲשֶׁר לָקַחְתִּי מִיַּד הָאֱמֹרִי, בְּחַרְבִּי וּבְקַשְׁתִּי.
