Re’eh(רְאֵה)

Deuteronomy 11:26 – 16:17

First Aliyah

11:26
You can therefore see that I am placing before you both a blessing and a curse.
Re’eh anochi noten lifneychem hayom berachah uklalah.

11:27
The blessing [will come] if you obey the commandments of God your Lord, which I am prescribing to you today.
Et-haberachah asher tishme’u el-mitsvot Adonay Eloheychem asher anochi metsaveh etchem hayom.

11:28
The curse [will come] if you do not obey the commandments of God your Lord, and you go astray from the path that I am prescribing for you today, following other gods to have a novel spiritual experience.
Vehakelalah im-lo tishme’u el-mitsvot Adonay Eloheychem vesartem min-haderech asher anochi metsaveh etchem hayom lalechet acharey elohim acherim asher lo-yedatem.

11:29
When God your Lord brings you to the land which you are about to occupy, you must declare the blessing on Mount Gerizim, and the curse on Mount Ebal.
Vehayah ki yevi’acha Adonay Eloheycha el-ha’arets asher atah vah-shamah lerishtah venatatah et-habrachah al-har Gerizim ve’et-haklalah al-har Eyval.

11:30
They are across the Jordan, just beyond the Sunset Highway on the way to Gilgal, near the Plains of Moreh, in the territory of the Canaanites who live in the flood plain.
Halo-hemah be’ever haYarden acharey derech mevo hashemesh be’erets haKna’ani hayoshev ba’Aravah mul haGilgal etsel eloney Moreh.

11:31
[You must do this] because you are crossing the Jordan to come to the land which God your Lord is giving you and occupy it. When you have occupied it and you live there,
Ki atem ovrim et-haYarden lavo lareshet et-ha’arets asher-Adonay Eloheychem noten lachem virishtem otah vishavtem-bah.

11:32
you must carefully keep all the rules and laws that I am prescribing to you today.

12:1
These are the rules and laws that you must carefully keep in the land that God, Lord of your fathers, is giving you so that you will be able to occupy it as long as you live on earth:
Eleh hachukim vehamishpatim asher tishmerun la’asot ba’arets asher natan Adonay Elohey avoteycha lecha lerishtah kol-hayamim asher-atem chayim al-ha’adamah.

12:2
Do away with all the places where the nations whom you are driving out worship their gods, [whether they are] on the high mountains, on the hills, or under any luxuriant tree.
Abed te’abdun et-kol-hamekomot asher avdu-sham hagoyim asher atem yorshim otam et-Eloheyhem al-heharim haramim ve’al-hageva’ot vetachat kol-ets ra’anan.

12:3
You must tear down their altars, break up their sacred pillars, burn their Asherah trees, and chop down the statues of their gods, obliterating their names from that place.
Venitatstem et-mizbechotam veshibartem et-matsevotam va’ashereyhem tisrefun ba’esh ufsiley eloheyhem tegade’un ve’ibadetem et-shmam min-hamakom hahu.

12:4
You may not worship God your Lord in such a manner.
Lo ta’asun ken l’Adonay Eloheychem.

12:5
This you may do only on the site that God your Lord will choose from among all your tribes, as a place established in His name. It is there that you shall go to seek His presence.
Ki im-el-hamakom asher yivchar Adonay Eloheychem mikol-shivteychem lasum et-shemo sham leshichno tidreshu uvata shamah.

12:6
That shall be the place to which you must bring your burnt offerings and eaten sacrifices, your [special] tithes, your hand-delivered elevated gifts, your general and specific pledges, and the first-born of your cattle and flocks.
Vahavetem shamah oloteychem vezivcheychem ve’et masroteychem ve’et trumat yedchem venidreychem venidvoteychem uvechorot bekarchem vetsonchem.

12:7
You and your families shall eat there before God your Lord, and you shall rejoice in all your endeavors, through which God your Lord shall bless you.
Va’achaltem-sham lifney Adonay Eloheychem usmachtem bechol mishlach yedchem atem uvateychem asher berachecha Adonay Eloheycha.

12:8
You will then not be able to do everything that we are now doing, [where each] person does what is right in his eyes.
Lo ta’asun kechol asher anachnu osim poh hayom ish kol-hayashar be’eynav.

12:9
Now you have not yet come to the resting place and hereditary land that God your Lord is giving you.

12:10
But you shall soon cross the Jordan and live in the land that God your Lord is allotting you. When He has granted you safety from all your enemies around you, and you live in security,
Va’avartem et-haYarden vishavtem ba’arets asher-Adonay Eloheychem manchil etchem veheniach lachem mikol-oyveychem misaviv vishavtem-betach.
