Haftara Tetzaveh

Ezekiel 43.10-27

You, son of man, show the house to the people of Israel, that they may be ashamed of their iniquities; and let them measure accurately. If the are ashamed of all that they have done, explain to them the construction of the house, its arrangements, its exits, its entrances, its forms, and its ordinances, all its forms, and all its laws, and write it in their sight; so they may keep its whole construction, and all its ordinances, and do them. This is the law of the house; the entire top of the mountain shall be most holy. Behold, this is the law of the house.

There are the measures of the altar by cubits – the cubit is a cubit and a hand-breadth; its base shall be one cubit high and one cubit broad, and along its edge a rim of one span, and this shall be the base of the altar. From the base on the ground to the lower ledge, two cubits, and the breadth one cubit; and from the smaller ledge to  the greater ledge, four cubits, and the breadth of one cubit. And the altar hearth, four cubits; and from the altar hearth and upward, for horns. The altar hearth shall be twelve cubits long by fourteen broad on its sides; with a rim about it half a cubit; and its base one cubit round about. Its steps shall face East.

And He said to me, Son of man, thus says God the Lord: The are the ordinances for the altar on the day it is erected, to offer burnt offerings upon it and dash blood against it. You shall give to the Levitical priests of the seed of Zadok, who draw near to Me to minister to Me, said God the Lord, a young bullock for a sin offering. You shall take some of its blood and put it on the four horns of the altar, and on the four corners of the ledge, and on the rim round about; thus you shall purify it and make atonement for it. You shall also take the bullock of the sin offering, and it shall be burnt in the appointed place of the house, outside the sanctuary.

Then on the second day you shall offer an unblemished he-goat for a sin offering; and they shall purify the altar, as they purified it with the bullock. When you have finished purifying it, you shall offer an unblemished young bullock, and an unblemished ram from the flock. You shall present them before God, and the priests shall sprinkle salt on them, and offer them up as a burnt offering to God.

For seven days you shall prepare daily a goat for a sin offering; they shall also prepare a young bullock, and a ram from the flock, without blemish. Seven days they shall make atonement for the altar and cleanse it; thus they shall consecrate it. And when they have completed these days, from the eighth day on, the priests shall offer burnt offerings upon the altar, and your peace offerings; and I will accept you, said God the Lord.
