4:27
If a commoner commits an inadvertent violation by violating any one of certain [specified] prohibitory commandments of God, he incurs guilt.
Ve’im-nefesh achat techeta vishgagah me’am ha’arets ba’asotah achat mimitsvot Adonay asher lo-te’aseynah ve’ashem.
וְאִם-נֶפֶשׁ אַחַת תֶּחֱטָא בִשְׁגָגָה, מֵעַם הָאָרֶץ: בַּעֲשֹׂתָהּ אַחַת מִמִּצְו‍ֹת יְהוָה, אֲשֶׁר לֹא-תֵעָשֶׂינָה–וְאָשֵׁם.

4:28
When he is made aware of the violation he has committed, he must bring an unblemished female goat for the sin he committed.
O hoda elav chatato asher chata vehevi korbano se’irat izim tmimah nekevah al-chatato asher chata.
אוֹ הוֹדַע אֵלָיו, חַטָּאתוֹ אֲשֶׁר חָטָא–וְהֵבִיא קָרְבָּנוֹ שְׂעִירַת עִזִּים, תְּמִימָה נְקֵבָה, עַל-חַטָּאתוֹ, אֲשֶׁר חָטָא.

4:29
He shall press his hands on the head of the sin offering, and have the sin offering slaughtered in the same place as the burnt offering.
Vesamach et-yado al-rosh hachatat veshachat et-hachatat bimkom ha’olah.
וְסָמַךְ, אֶת-יָדוֹ, עַל, רֹאשׁ הַחַטָּאת; וְשָׁחַט, אֶת-הַחַטָּאת, בִּמְקוֹם, הָעֹלָה.

4:30
The priest shall take some of [the goat’s] blood with his finger and place it on the protrusions of the sacrificial altar, spilling out all [the rest] of the blood at the altar’s base.
Velakach hakohen midamah be’etsba’o venatan al-karnot mizbach ha’olah ve’et-kol-damah yishpoch el-yesod hamizbe’ach.
וְלָקַח הַכֹּהֵן מִדָּמָהּ, בְּאֶצְבָּעוֹ, וְנָתַן, עַל-קַרְנֹת מִזְבַּח הָעֹלָה; וְאֶת-כָּל-דָּמָהּ יִשְׁפֹּךְ, אֶל-יְסוֹד הַמִּזְבֵּחַ.

4:31
He shall remove all the fat, as he did with the fat of the peace offering, and the priest shall burn it on the altar, as an appeasing fragrance to God. The priest shall thus make atonement for the individual, and he will be forgiven.
Ve’et-kol-chelbah yasir ka’asher husar chelev me’al zevach hashlamim vehiktir hakohen hamizbechah lere’ach nichoach l’Adonay vechiper alav hakohen venislach lo.
וְאֶת-כָּל-חֶלְבָּהּ יָסִיר, כַּאֲשֶׁר הוּסַר חֵלֶב מֵעַל זֶבַח הַשְּׁלָמִים, וְהִקְטִיר הַכֹּהֵן הַמִּזְבֵּחָה, לְרֵיחַ נִיחֹחַ לַיהוָה; וְכִפֶּר עָלָיו הַכֹּהֵן, וְנִסְלַח לוֹ.

4:32
If he brings a sheep as a sin offering, it shall be an unblemished female.
Ve’im-keves yavi korbano lechatat nekevah tmimah yevi’enah.
וְאִם-כֶּבֶשׂ יָבִיא קָרְבָּנוֹ, לְחַטָּאת–נְקֵבָה תְמִימָה, יְבִיאֶנָּה.

4:33
He shall press his hands on the head of the sin offering, and have it slaughtered in the same place that the burnt offering was slaughtered.
Vesamach et-yado al-rosh hachatat veshachat otah lechatat bimkom asher yishchat et-ha’olah.
וְסָמַךְ, אֶת-יָדוֹ, עַל, רֹאשׁ הַחַטָּאת; וְשָׁחַט אֹתָהּ, לְחַטָּאת, בִּמְקוֹם, אֲשֶׁר יִשְׁחַט אֶת-הָעֹלָה.

4:34

4:35
He shall remove all its choice parts, just as he removed all the choice parts of the sheep brought as a peace offering, and burn them on the altar along with the fire offerings dedicated to God. The priest will thus make atonement for the sin the person committed and he will be forgiven.
Ve’et-kol-chelbah yasir ka’asher yusar chelev-hakesev mizevach hashlamim vehiktir hakohen otam hamizbechah al ishey Adonay vechiper alav hakohen al-chatato asher-chata venislach lo.
וְאֶת-כָּל-חֶלְבָּהּ יָסִיר, כַּאֲשֶׁר יוּסַר חֵלֶב-הַכֶּשֶׂב מִזֶּבַח הַשְּׁלָמִים, וְהִקְטִיר הַכֹּהֵן אֹתָם הַמִּזְבֵּחָה, עַל אִשֵּׁי יְהוָה; וְכִפֶּר עָלָיו הַכֹּהֵן עַל-חַטָּאתוֹ אֲשֶׁר-חָטָא, וְנִסְלַח לוֹ.

5:1
[This is the law] if a person sins [in any of the following ways]: If he is bound by an oath [to give evidence in court], where he was a witness who saw or knew [something], and he does not testify, he must bear his guilt.
Venefesh ki-techeta veshame’ah kol alah vehu ed o ra’ah o yada im-lo yagid venasa avono.
וְנֶפֶשׁ כִּי-תֶחֱטָא, וְשָׁמְעָה קוֹל אָלָה, וְהוּא עֵד, אוֹ רָאָה אוֹ יָדָע; אִם-לוֹא יַגִּיד, וְנָשָׂא עֲו‍ֹנוֹ.

5:2
[The same is true] if a person touches anything ritually unclean, whether it is any dead non-kosher animal, wild or domestic, or any dead unclean creeping animal, and then commits a violation while forgetting that he was unclean.
O nefesh asher tiga bechol-davar tame o venivlat chayah tme’ah o benivlat behemah tme’ah o benivlat sherets tame vene’elam mimenu vehu tame ve’ashem.
אוֹ נֶפֶשׁ, אֲשֶׁר תִּגַּע בְּכָל-דָּבָר טָמֵא, אוֹ בְנִבְלַת חַיָּה טְמֵאָה אוֹ בְּנִבְלַת בְּהֵמָה טְמֵאָה, אוֹ בְּנִבְלַת שֶׁרֶץ טָמֵא; וְנֶעְלַם מִמֶּנּוּ, וְהוּא טָמֵא וְאָשֵׁם.

5:3
Similarly, if he comes in contact with any ritual uncleanliness stemming from a human being, which renders him unclean, and then forgets about it, he may later discover that he has committed a violation.
O chi yiga betum’at adam lechol tum’ato asher yitmah bah vene’elam mimenu vehu yada ve’ashem.
אוֹ כִי יִגַּע, בְּטֻמְאַת אָדָם, לְכֹל טֻמְאָתוֹ, אֲשֶׁר יִטְמָא בָּהּ; וְנֶעְלַם מִמֶּנּוּ, וְהוּא יָדַע וְאָשֵׁם.

5:4
[This is also true] if a person makes a verbal oath to do good or bad, no matter what is expressed in the oath, and then forgets about it. In any of these cases, the person is considered guilty as soon as he realizes what he has done.
O nefesh ki tishava levate visfatayim lehara o leheytiv lechol asher yevate ha’adam bishvu’ah vene’elam mimenu vehu-yada ve’ashem le’achat me’eleh.
אוֹ נֶפֶשׁ כִּי תִשָּׁבַע לְבַטֵּא בִשְׂפָתַיִם לְהָרַע אוֹ לְהֵיטִיב, לְכֹל אֲשֶׁר יְבַטֵּא הָאָדָם בִּשְׁבֻעָה–וְנֶעְלַם מִמֶּנּוּ; וְהוּא-יָדַע וְאָשֵׁם, לְאַחַת מֵאֵלֶּה.

5:5
When he is guilty in any of these cases, he must confess the sin that he has committed.
Vehayah chi-yesham le’achat me’eleh vehitvadah asher chata aleyha.
וְהָיָה כִי-יֶאְשַׁם, לְאַחַת מֵאֵלֶּה: וְהִתְוַדָּה–אֲשֶׁר חָטָא, עָלֶיהָ.

5:6
He must [also] bring his guilt offering to God for the sin he has committed. It must be a female sheep or goat, [brought] as a sin offering. The priest will then make atonement for [the person’s] sin.
Vehevi et-ashamo l’Adonay al chatato asher chata nekevah min-hatson kisbah o-se’irat izim lechatat vechiper alav hakohen mechatato.
וְהֵבִיא אֶת-אֲשָׁמוֹ לַיהוָה עַל חַטָּאתוֹ אֲשֶׁר חָטָא נְקֵבָה מִן-הַצֹּאן כִּשְׂבָּה, אוֹ-שְׂעִירַת עִזִּים–לְחַטָּאת; וְכִפֶּר עָלָיו הַכֹּהֵן, מֵחַטָּאתוֹ.

5:7
If he cannot afford a sheep, the guilt offering that he presents to God for his sin shall be two turtle doves or two young common doves. One shall be a sin offering and the other shall be a burnt offering.
Ve’im-lo tagia yado dey seh vehevi et-ashamo asher chata shetey torim o-shney veney-yonah l’Adonay echad lechatat ve’echad le’olah.
וְאִם-לֹא תַגִּיעַ יָדוֹ, דֵּי שֶׂה–וְהֵבִיא אֶת-אֲשָׁמוֹ אֲשֶׁר חָטָא שְׁתֵּי תֹרִים אוֹ-שְׁנֵי בְנֵי-יוֹנָה, לַיהוָה: אֶחָד לְחַטָּאת, וְאֶחָד לְעֹלָה.

5:8
He shall bring them to the priest, who shall first sacrifice the one for the sin offering. He shall gouge through its neck from the back without separating [the head from the body].
Vehevi otam el-hakohen vehikriv et-asher lachatat rishonah umalak et-rosho mimul orpo velo yavdil.
וְהֵבִיא אֹתָם אֶל-הַכֹּהֵן, וְהִקְרִיב אֶת-אֲשֶׁר לַחַטָּאת רִאשׁוֹנָה; וּמָלַק אֶת-רֹאשׁוֹ מִמּוּל עָרְפּוֹ, וְלֹא יַבְדִּיל.

5:9
He shall then drain some of the blood on the side of the altar, and the rest of the blood at the altar’s base. This one is the sin offering.
Vehizah midam hachatat al-kir hamizbe’ach vehanish’ar badam yimatseh el-yesod hamizbe’ach chatat hu.
וְהִזָּה מִדַּם הַחַטָּאת, עַל-קִיר הַמִּזְבֵּחַ, וְהַנִּשְׁאָר בַּדָּם, יִמָּצֵה אֶל-יְסוֹד הַמִּזְבֵּחַ; חַטָּאת, הוּא.

5:10
Then he shall sacrifice the second [bird] as the law requires. The priest shall thus make atonement for the sin that [the person] committed, and he will be forgiven.
Ve’et-hasheni ya’aseh olah kamishpat vechiper alav hakohen mechatato asher-chata venislach lo.
וְאֶת-הַשֵּׁנִי יַעֲשֶׂה עֹלָה, כַּמִּשְׁפָּט; וְכִפֶּר עָלָיו הַכֹּהֵן מֵחַטָּאתוֹ אֲשֶׁר-חָטָא, וְנִסְלַח לוֹ.
