Leviticus 1:1 – 5:26

Seventh Aliyah



5:11
If he cannot afford the two turtle doves or two common doves, the sacrifice that he must bring for his sin shall consist of 1/10 ephah of wheat meal as a sin offering. Since it is a sin offering, he shall not place any oil nor any frankincense on it.
Ve’im-lo tasig yado lishtey torim o lishney vney-yonah vehevi et-korbano asher chata asirit ha’efah solet lechatat lo-yasim aleyha shemen velo-yiten aleyha levonah ki chatat hi.
וְאִם-לֹא תַשִּׂיג יָדוֹ לִשְׁתֵּי תֹרִים, אוֹ לִשְׁנֵי בְנֵי-יוֹנָה–וְהֵבִיא אֶת-קָרְבָּנוֹ אֲשֶׁר חָטָא עֲשִׂירִת הָאֵפָה סֹלֶת, לְחַטָּאת; לֹא-יָשִׂים עָלֶיהָ שֶׁמֶן, וְלֹא-יִתֵּן עָלֶיהָ לְבֹנָה–כִּי חַטָּאת, הִוא.

5:12
He shall bring it to the priest, and the priest shall scoop up three fingers full as a memorial portion. He shall burn [this portion] as a sin offering on the altar along with God’s [other] fire offerings.
Vehevi’ah el-hakohen vekamats hakohen mimenah melo kumtso et-azkaratah vehiktir hamizbechah al-ishey Adonay chatat hi.
וֶהֱבִיאָהּ, אֶל-הַכֹּהֵן, וְקָמַץ הַכֹּהֵן מִמֶּנָּה מְלוֹא קֻמְצוֹ אֶת-אַזְכָּרָתָהּ וְהִקְטִיר הַמִּזְבֵּחָה, עַל אִשֵּׁי יְהוָה; חַטָּאת, הִוא.

5:13
The priest shall thus make atonement for [the person’s] sin with one of the above-mentioned offerings, and he will be forgiven. Just as in the case of the meal offering, [the unburnt portions of these sacrifices] shall belong to the priest.
Vechiper alav hakohen al-chatato asher-chata me’achat me’eleh venislach lo vehayetah lakohen kaminchah.
וְכִפֶּר עָלָיו הַכֹּהֵן עַל-חַטָּאתוֹ אֲשֶׁר-חָטָא, מֵאַחַת מֵאֵלֶּה–וְנִסְלַח לוֹ; וְהָיְתָה לַכֹּהֵן, כַּמִּנְחָה.

5:14
God spoke to Moses saying:
Vayedaber Adonay el-Moshe lemor.
וַיְדַבֵּר יְהוָה, אֶל-מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר.

5:15
If a person sins inadvertently by expropriating [for personal use] something that is sacred to God, he shall bring as his guilt offering to God, an unblemished ram with a prescribed value of [at least two] shekels according to the sanctuary standard. It shall be [prepared as] a guilt offering.
Nefesh ki-tim’ol ma’al vechat’ah bishgagah mikodshey Adonay vehevi et-ashamo l’Adonay ayil tamim min-hatson be’erkecha kesef-shkalim beshekel-hakodesh le’asham.
נֶפֶשׁ, כִּי-תִמְעֹל מַעַל, וְחָטְאָה בִּשְׁגָגָה, מִקָּדְשֵׁי יְהוָה: וְהֵבִיא אֶת-אֲשָׁמוֹ לַיהוָה אַיִל תָּמִים מִן-הַצֹּאן, בְּעֶרְכְּךָ כֶּסֶף-שְׁקָלִים בְּשֶׁקֶל-הַקֹּדֶשׁ–לְאָשָׁם.

5:16
For misappropriating something that was sacred, he must make full restitution, adding one-fifth to it, and give it to the priest. The priest shall then atone for him with the guilt offering ram, and he will be forgiven.
Ve’et asher chata min-hakodesh yeshalem ve’et-chamishito yosef alav venatan oto lakohen vehakohen yechaper alav be’eyl ha’asham venislach lo.
וְאֵת אֲשֶׁר חָטָא מִן-הַקֹּדֶשׁ יְשַׁלֵּם, וְאֶת-חֲמִישִׁתוֹ יוֹסֵף עָלָיו, וְנָתַן אֹתוֹ, לַכֹּהֵן; וְהַכֹּהֵן, יְכַפֵּר עָלָיו בְּאֵיל הָאָשָׁם–וְנִסְלַח לוֹ.

5:17
If a person sins by violating certain of God’s prohibitory commandments, without knowing [for sure] he still bears responsibility.
Ve’im-nefesh ki techeta ve’asetah achat mikol-mitsvot Adonay asher lo te’aseynah velo-yada ve’ashem venasa avono.
וְאִם-נֶפֶשׁ, כִּי תֶחֱטָא, וְעָשְׂתָה אַחַת מִכָּל-מִצְו‍ֹת יְהוָה, אֲשֶׁר לֹא תֵעָשֶׂינָה; וְלֹא-יָדַע וְאָשֵׁם, וְנָשָׂא עֲו‍ֹנוֹ.

5:18
He must bring an unblemished ram, with the prescribed value, to the priest as a guilt offering. The priest shall then make atonement for the inadvertent sin that the person committed without definite knowledge, and he shall be forgiven.
Vehevi ayil tamim min-hatson be’erkecha le’asham el-hakohen vechiper alav hakohen al shigegato asher-shagag vehu lo-yada venislach lo.
וְהֵבִיא אַיִל תָּמִים מִן-הַצֹּאן, בְּעֶרְכְּךָ לְאָשָׁם–אֶל-הַכֹּהֵן; וְכִפֶּר עָלָיו הַכֹּהֵן עַל שִׁגְגָתוֹ אֲשֶׁר-שָׁגָג, וְהוּא לֹא-יָדַע–וְנִסְלַח לוֹ.

5:19
It is a guilt offering that one must bring for his guilt toward God.
Asham hu ashom asham l’Adonay.
אָשָׁם, הוּא: אָשֹׁם אָשַׁם, לַיהוָה.אָשָׁם, הוּא: אָשֹׁם אָשַׁם, לַיהוָה.

5:20
God spoke to Moses saying:
Vayedaber Adonay el-Moshe lemor.
וַיְדַבֵּר יְהוָה, אֶל-מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר.

5:21
[This is the law] if a person sins and commits a misappropriation offense against God by lying to his neighbor. [It can involve] an article left for safekeeping, a business deal, robbery, withholding funds
Nefesh ki techeta uma’alah ma’al ba’Adonay vechichesh ba’amito befikadon ovitesumet yad o vegazel o ashak et-amito.
נֶפֶשׁ כִּי תֶחֱטָא, וּמָעֲלָה מַעַל בַּיהוָה; וְכִחֵשׁ בַּעֲמִיתוֹ בְּפִקָּדוֹן, אוֹ-בִתְשׂוּמֶת יָד אוֹ בְגָזֵל, אוֹ, עָשַׁק אֶת-עֲמִיתוֹ.

5:22
or finding a lost object and denying it. If the person swears falsely in any of these cases involving human relations, he is considered to have sinned.
O-matsa avedah vechichesh bah venishba al-shaker al-achat mikol asher-ya’aseh ha’adam lachato vahenah.
אוֹ-מָצָא אֲבֵדָה וְכִחֶשׁ בָּהּ, וְנִשְׁבַּע עַל-שָׁקֶר; עַל-אַחַת, מִכֹּל אֲשֶׁר-יַעֲשֶׂה הָאָדָם–לַחֲטֹא בָהֵנָּה.

5:23
When he becomes guilty of such a sin, he must return the stolen article, the withheld funds, the article left for safekeeping, the found article,
Vehayah ki-yechetah ve’ashem veheshiv et-hagzelah asher gazal o et-ha’oshek asher ashak o et-hapikadon asher hofkad ito o et-ha’avedah asher matsa.
וְהָיָה, כִּי-יֶחֱטָא וְאָשֵׁם–וְהֵשִׁיב אֶת-הַגְּזֵלָה אֲשֶׁר גָּזָל אוֹ אֶת-הָעֹשֶׁק אֲשֶׁר עָשָׁק, אוֹ אֶת-הַפִּקָּדוֹן אֲשֶׁר הָפְקַד אִתּוֹ; אוֹ אֶת-הָאֲבֵדָה, אֲשֶׁר מָצָא.
