Noah (נֹחַ)

Genesis 6:9 – 11:32
Third Aliyah

7:17
There was a flood on the earth for forty days. The waters increased, lifting the ark, and it rose from on the ground.

7:18
The waters surged and increased very much, and the ark began to drift on the surface of the water.
Vayigberu hamayim vayirbu me’od al-ha’arets vatelech hatevah al-peney hamayim.

7:19
The waters on the earth surged [upward] very, very much, and all the high mountains under the heavens were covered.
Vehamayim gaveru me’od me’od al-ha’arets vayichusu kol-heharim hagevohim asher-tachat kol-hashamayim.

7:20
The waters had surged upward fifteen cubits and all the mountains were covered.
Chamesh esreh amah milmalah gavru hamayim vayechusu heharim.

7:21
All flesh that walked the earth perished: birds, livestock, wild beasts, and every lower animal that swarmed on the land, as well as every human being.
Vayigva kol-basar haromes al-ha’arets ba’of uvabehemah uvachayah uvechol-hasherets hashorets al-ha’arets vechol ha’adam.

7:22
Everything on dry land whose life was sustained by breathing died.
Kol asher nishmat-ruach chayim be’apav mikol asher becharavah metu.

7:23
The flood thus obliterated every organism that had been on the face of the land: humanity, livestock, land animals, and birds of the heaven. They were obliterated from the earth. Only Noah and those with him in the ark survived.
Vayimach et-kol-hayekum asher al-peney ha’adamah me’adam ad behemah ad-remes ve’ad-of hashamayim vayimachu min-ha’arets vayisha’er ach-Noach va’asher ito batevah.

7:24
The waters surged on the earth for 150 days.
Vayigberu hamayim al-ha’arets chamishim ume’at yom.

8:1
God gave special thought to Noah, and to all the beasts and livestock with him in the ark. God made a wind blow on the earth, and the waters began to subside.
Vayizkor Elohim et-Noach ve’et kol-hachayah ve’et-kol-habehemah asher ito batevah vaya’aver Elohim ruach al-ha’arets vayashoku hamayim.

8:2
The wellsprings of the deep and the floodgates of heaven were sealed. The downpour from the heavens thus stopped.
Vayisachru mayenot tehom va’arubot hashamayim vayikale hageshem min-hashamayim.

8:3
The waters receded from the earth. They continued to recede, and at the end of 150 days, the water had visibly diminished.
Bishnat shesh-me’ot shanah lechayey-Noach bachodesh hasheni beshiv’ah-asar yom lachodesh bayom hazeh niveke’u kol-mayenot tehom rabah va’arubot hashamayim niftachu.

8:4
In the seventh month, on the 17th day of the month, the ark came to rest on the Ararat Mountains.
Vatanach hatevah bachodesh hashvi’i beshiv’ah-asar yom lachodesh al harey Ararat.

8:5
The waters continued to diminish visibly until the tenth month. In the tenth month, on the first of the month, the mountain peaks became visible.
Vehamayim hayu haloch vechasor ad hachodesh ha’asiri ba’asiri be’echad lachodesh nir’u rashey heharim.

8:6
After forty days, Noah opened the window he had made in the ark.
Veyehi mikets arba’im yom vayiftach Noach et-chalon hatevah asher asah.

8:7
He sent out the raven, and it departed. It went back and forth until the water had dried up from the land’s surface.

8:8
He then sent out the dove to see if the water had subsided from the land’s surface.

8:9
The dove could not find any place to rest its feet, and it returned to him, to the ark. There was still water over all the earth’s surface. Noah stretched out his hand, and brought it to him in the ark.
Velo-mats’ah hayonah manoach lechaf-raglah vatashov elav el-hatevah ki mayim al-peney chol-ha’arets vayishlach yado vayikacheha vayaveh otah elav el-hatevah.

8:10
He waited another seven days, and once again sent the dove out from the ark.
Vayachel od shiv’at yamim acherim vayosef shalach et-hayonah min-hatevah.

8:11
The dove returned to him toward evening, and there was a freshly-plucked olive leaf in its beak. Noah then knew that the water had subsided from the earth.

8:12
He waited yet another seven days and sent out the dove [again]. This time it did not return to him any more.
Vayiyachel od shiv’at yamim acherim vayeshalach et-hayonah velo-yasfah shuv-elav od.

8:13
In the 601st year of Noah’s life, in the first month, on the first of the month, the land was drained off and Noah removed the ark’s hatch. He saw that the land’s surface was beginning to dry.
Vayehi be’achat veshesh-me’ot shanah barishon be’echad lachodesh charevu hamayim me’al ha’arets vayasar Noach et-michseh hatevah vayar vehineh charevu peney ha’adamah.

8:14
By the second month, on the 27th day of the month, the land was completely dry.
Uvachodesh hasheni beshive’ah ve’esrim yom lachodesh yaveshah ha’arets.
