12:14
When Abram came to Egypt, the Egyptians saw that his wife was very beautiful.
Vayehi kevo Avram Mitsraymah vayir’u haMitsrim et-ha’ishah ki-yafah hi me’od.
וַיְהִי, כְּבוֹא אַבְרָם מִצְרָיְמָה; וַיִּרְאוּ הַמִּצְרִים אֶת-הָאִשָּׁה, כִּי-יָפָה הִוא מְאֹד.
 

12:15
Pharaoh’s officials saw her, and spoke highly of her to Pharaoh. The woman was taken to Pharaoh’s palace.
Vayir’u otah sarey Far’oh vayehalelu otah el-Par’oh vatukach ha’ishah beyt Par’oh.
וַיִּרְאוּ אֹתָהּ שָׂרֵי פַרְעֹה, וַיְהַלְלוּ אֹתָהּ אֶל-פַּרְעֹה; וַתֻּקַּח הָאִשָּׁה, בֵּית פַּרְעֹה.
 

12:16
He treated Abram well because of her, and [Abram] thus acquired sheep, cattle, donkeys, male and female slaves, she-donkeys, and camels.
Ule-Avram heytiv ba’avurah vayehi-lo tson-uvakar vachamorim va’avadim ushfachot va’atonot ugemalim.
וּלְאַבְרָם הֵיטִיב, בַּעֲבוּרָהּ; וַיְהִי-לוֹ צֹאן-וּבָקָר, וַחֲמֹרִים, וַעֲבָדִים וּשְׁפָחֹת, וַאֲתֹנֹת וּגְמַלִּים.
 

12:17
God struck Pharaoh and his palace with severe plagues because of Abram’s wife Sarai.
Vayenaga Adonay et-Par’oh nega’im gedolim ve’et-beyto al-dvar Saray eshet-Avram.
וַיְנַגַּע יְהוָה אֶת-פַּרְעֹה נְגָעִים גְּדֹלִים, וְאֶת-בֵּיתוֹ, עַל-דְּבַר שָׂרַי, אֵשֶׁת אַבְרָם.
 

12:18
Pharaoh summoned Abram and said, ‘How could you do this to me? Why didn’t you tell me that she was your wife?
Vayikra Far’oh le-Avram vayomer ma-zot asita li lamah lo-higadeta li ki ishtecha hi.
וַיִּקְרָא פַרְעֹה, לְאַבְרָם, וַיֹּאמֶר, מַה-זֹּאת עָשִׂיתָ לִּי; לָמָּה לֹא-הִגַּדְתָּ לִּי, כִּי אִשְׁתְּךָ הִוא.
 

12:19
Why did you say that she was your sister so that I should take her to myself as a wife? Now here is your wife! Take her and go!’
Lamah amarta achoti hi va’ekach otah li le’ishah ve’atah hineh ishtecha kach valech.
לָמָה אָמַרְתָּ אֲחֹתִי הִוא, וָאֶקַּח אֹתָהּ לִי לְאִשָּׁה; וְעַתָּה, הִנֵּה אִשְׁתְּךָ קַח וָלֵךְ.
 

12:20
Pharaoh put men in charge of [Abram], and they sent him on his way along with his wife and all that was his.
Vayetsav alav Par’oh anashim vayeshalechu oto ve’et-ishto ve’et-kol-asher-lo.
וַיְצַו עָלָיו פַּרְעֹה, אֲנָשִׁים; וַיְשַׁלְּחוּ אֹתוֹ וְאֶת-אִשְׁתּוֹ, וְאֶת-כָּל-אֲשֶׁר-לוֹ.
 

13:1
Abram headed northward to the Negev along with his wife and all that was his, including Lot.
Vaya’al Avram miMitsrayim hu ve’ishto vechol-asher-lo veLot imo haNegbah.
וַיַּעַל אַבְרָם מִמִּצְרַיִם הוּא וְאִשְׁתּוֹ וְכָל-אֲשֶׁר-לוֹ, וְלוֹט עִמּוֹ–הַנֶּגְבָּה.
 

13:2
Abram was very rich, with livestock, silver and gold.
Ve’Avram kaved me’od bamikneh bakesef uvazahav.
וְאַבְרָם, כָּבֵד מְאֹד, בַּמִּקְנֶה, בַּכֶּסֶף וּבַזָּהָב.
 

13:3
He continued on his travels, from the Negev toward Bethel, until [he came to] the place where he originally had his tent, between Bethel and Ai,
Vayelech lemasa’av miNegev ve’ad-Beyt-El ad-hamakom asher-hayah sham aholoh batchilah beyn Beyt-El uveyn ha’Ay.
וַיֵּלֶךְ, לְמַסָּעָיו, מִנֶּגֶב, וְעַד-בֵּית-אֵל–עַד-הַמָּקוֹם, אֲשֶׁר-הָיָה שָׁם אָהֳלֹה בַּתְּחִלָּה, בֵּין בֵּית-אֵל, וּבֵין הָעָי.
 

13:4
he site of the altar that he had built there at first. Abram called in God’s name.
El-mekom hamizbe’ach asher-asah sham barishonah vayikra sham Avram beshem Adonay.
אֶל-מְקוֹם, הַמִּזְבֵּחַ, אֲשֶׁר-עָשָׂה שָׁם, בָּרִאשֹׁנָה; וַיִּקְרָא שָׁם אַבְרָם, בְּשֵׁם יְהוָה.
