14:21
The king of Sodom said to Abram, ‘Give me the people. You can keep the goods.’
Vayomer melech Sedom el-Avram ten-li hanefesh veharechush kach-lach.
וַיֹּאמֶר מֶלֶךְ-סְדֹם, אֶל-אַבְרָם: תֶּן-לִי הַנֶּפֶשׁ, וְהָרְכֻשׁ קַח-לָךְ.
 

14:22
Abram replied to the king of Sodom, ‘I have lifted my hand [in an oath] to God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth!
Vayomer Avram el-melech Sedom harimoti yadi el-Adonay El Elyon Koneh shamayim va’arets.
וַיֹּאמֶר אַבְרָם, אֶל-מֶלֶךְ סְדֹם: הֲרִמֹתִי יָדִי אֶל-יְהוָה אֵל עֶלְיוֹן, קֹנֵה שָׁמַיִם וָאָרֶץ.
 

14:23
Not a thread nor a shoelace! I will not take anything that is yours! You should not be able to say, ‘It was I who made Abram rich.’
Im-michut ve’ad sroch-na’al ve’im-ekach mikol-asher-lach velo tomar ani he’esharti et-Avram.
אִם-מִחוּט וְעַד שְׂרוֹךְ-נַעַל, וְאִם-אֶקַּח מִכָּל-אֲשֶׁר-לָךְ; וְלֹא תֹאמַר, אֲנִי הֶעֱשַׁרְתִּי אֶת-אַבְרָם.
 

14:24
The only exception is what the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men who went with me, Aner, Eshkol and Mamre. Let them take their share.’
Bile’aday rak asher achlu hane’arim vechelek ha’anashim asher halchu iti Aner Eshkol uMamre hem yichu chelkam.
בִּלְעָדַי, רַק אֲשֶׁר אָכְלוּ הַנְּעָרִים, וְחֵלֶק הָאֲנָשִׁים, אֲשֶׁר הָלְכוּ אִתִּי: עָנֵר אֶשְׁכֹּל וּמַמְרֵא, הֵם יִקְחוּ חֶלְקָם.
 

15:1
After these events, God’s word came to Abram in a vision, saying, ‘Fear not Abram, I am your shield. Your reward is very great.’
Achar hadevarim ha’eleh hayah dvar-Adonay el-Avram bamachazeh lemor al-tira Avram anochi magen lach scharecha harbeh me’od.
אַחַר הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה, הָיָה דְבַר-יְהוָה אֶל-אַבְרָם, בַּמַּחֲזֶה, לֵאמֹר: אַל-תִּירָא אַבְרָם, אָנֹכִי מָגֵן לָךְ–שְׂכָרְךָ, הַרְבֵּה מְאֹד.
 

15:2
Abram said, ‘O Lord, God, what will you give me if I remain childless? The heir to my household will be Damascus Eliezer.’
Vayomer Avram Adonay Elohim mah-titen-li ve’anochi holech ariri uven-meshek beyti hu Damesek Eli’ezer.
וַיֹּאמֶר אַבְרָם, אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה מַה-תִּתֶּן-לִי, וְאָנֹכִי, הוֹלֵךְ עֲרִירִי; וּבֶן-מֶשֶׁק בֵּיתִי, הוּא דַּמֶּשֶׂק אֱלִיעֶזֶר.
 

15:3
Abram continued, ‘You have given me no children. A member of my household will inherit what is mine.’
Vayomer Avram hen li lo natatah zara vehineh ven-beyti yoresh oti.
וַיֹּאמֶר אַבְרָם–הֵן לִי, לֹא נָתַתָּה זָרַע; וְהִנֵּה בֶן-בֵּיתִי, יוֹרֵשׁ אֹתִי.
 

15:4
Suddenly God’s word came to him: ‘That one will not be your heir! One born from your own body will inherit what is yours.’
Vehineh dvar Adonay elav lemor lo yirashecha zeh ki-im asher yetse mime’echa hu yirashecha.
וְהִנֵּה דְבַר-יְהוָה אֵלָיו לֵאמֹר, לֹא יִירָשְׁךָ זֶה: כִּי-אִם אֲשֶׁר יֵצֵא מִמֵּעֶיךָ, הוּא יִירָשֶׁךָ.
 

15:5
He then took Abram outside and said, ‘Look at the sky and count the stars. See if you can count them.’ God then said to him, ‘That is how numerous your descendants will be.’
Vayotse oto hachutsah vayomer habet-na hashamaymah usfor hakochavim im-tuchal lispor otam vayomer lo koh yihyeh zar’echa.
וַיּוֹצֵא אֹתוֹ הַחוּצָה, וַיֹּאמֶר הַבֶּט-נָא הַשָּׁמַיְמָה וּסְפֹר הַכּוֹכָבִים–אִם-תּוּכַל, לִסְפֹּר אֹתָם; וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ, כֹּה יִהְיֶה זַרְעֶךָ.
 

15:6
Abram believed in God, and He counted it as righteousness.
Vehe’emin b’Adonay vayachsheveha lo tsedakah.
וְהֶאֱמִן, בַּיהוָה; וַיַּחְשְׁבֶהָ לּוֹ, צְדָקָה.
