BeShalach (בבְּשַׁלַּח)

Exodus 13:17 – 17:15

Fourth Aliyah

14:26
God said to Moses, ‘Extend your hand over the sea. The waters will come back over the Egyptians, covering their chariot corps and cavalry.’
Vayomer Adonay el-Moshe neteh et-yadcha al-hayam vayashuvu hamayim al-Mitsrayim al-richbo ve’al-parashav.

14:27
Just before morning, Moses extended his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its normal condition. The Egyptians were fleeing [the water], but God swamped the Egyptians in the middle of the sea.
Vayet Moshe et-yado al-hayam vayashov hayam lifnot boker le’eytano uMitsrayim nasim likrato vayena’er Adonay et-Mitsrayim betoch hayam.

14:28
The waters came back and covered the cavalry and chariots. Of all Pharaoh’s army that had followed [the Israelites] into the sea, not a single one remained.
Vayashuvu hamayim vayechasu et-harechev ve’et-haparashim lechol cheyl Par’oh haba’im achareyhem bayam lo nish’ar bahem ad-echad.

14:29
Meanwhile, the Israelites were walking in the midst of the sea on dry land. The water was on their right and on their left like [two] walls.
Uveney Yisra’el halchu vayabashah betoch hayam vehamayim lahem chomah miyeminam umismolam.

14:30
Thus, on that day, God rescued the Israelites from Egypt. The Israelites saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore.
Vayosha Adonay bayom hahu et-Yisra’el miyad Mistrayim vayar Yisra’el et-Mitsrayim met al-sfat hayam.

14:31
The Israelites saw the great power that God had unleashed against Egypt, and the people were in awe of God. They believed in God and in his servant Moses.
Vayar Yisra’el et-hayad hagdolah asher asah Adonay beMitsrayim vayir’u ha’am et-Adonay vaya’aminu b’Adonay uveMoshe avdo.

15:1
Moses and the Israelites then sang this song to God. It went:
I will sing to God for His great victory,
Horse and rider He threw in the sea.
Az yashir-Moshe uveney Yisra’el et-hashirah hazot l’Adonay vayomeru lemor ashirah l’Adonay ki-ga’oh ga’ah sus verochevo ramah vayam.
