15:27
Then they came to Elim. Here there were twelve springs of water and seventy date palms. They [then] camped by the water.
Vayavo’u Eylimah vesham shteym-esreh eynot mayim veshiv’im tmarim vayachanu-sham al-hamayim.
וַיָּבֹאוּ אֵילִמָה–וְשָׁם שְׁתֵּים עֶשְׂרֵה עֵינֹת מַיִם, וְשִׁבְעִים תְּמָרִים; וַיַּחֲנוּ-שָׁם, עַל-הַמָּיִם.
 

16:1
They moved on from Elim, and the entire community of Israel came to the Sin Desert, between Elim and Sinai. It was the 15th of the second month after they had left Egypt.
Vayis’u me’Eylim vayavo’u kol-adat beney-Yisra’el el-midbar-Sin asher beyn-Eylim uveyn Sinay bachamishah asar yom lachodesh hasheni letsetam me’erets Mitsrayim.
וַיִּסְעוּ, מֵאֵילִם, וַיָּבֹאוּ כָּל-עֲדַת בְּנֵי-יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶל-מִדְבַּר-סִין, אֲשֶׁר בֵּין-אֵילִם וּבֵין סִינָי–בַּחֲמִשָּׁה עָשָׂר יוֹם לַחֹדֶשׁ הַשֵּׁנִי, לְצֵאתָם מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם.
 

16:2
There in the desert, the entire Israelite community began to complain against Moses and Aaron.
Vayilonu kol-adat beney-Yisra’el al-Moshe ve’al-Aharon bamidbar.
וילינו (וַיִּלּוֹנוּ) כָּל-עֲדַת בְּנֵי-יִשְׂרָאֵל, עַל-מֹשֶׁה וְעַל-אַהֲרֹן–בַּמִּדְבָּר.
 

16:3
The Israelites said to them, ‘If only we had died by God’s hand in Egypt! There at least we could sit by pots of meat and eat our fill of bread! But you had to bring us out to this desert, to kill the entire community by starvation!’
Vayomru alehem beney Yisra’el mi-yiten mutenu veyad Adonay be’erets Mitsrayim beshivtenu al-sir habasar be’ochlenu lechem lasova ki-hotsetem otanu el-hamidbar hazeh lehamit et-kol-hakahal hazeh bara’av.
וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֲלֵהֶם בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, מִי-יִתֵּן מוּתֵנוּ בְיַד-יְהוָה בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם, בְּשִׁבְתֵּנוּ עַל-סִיר הַבָּשָׂר, בְּאָכְלֵנוּ לֶחֶם לָשֹׂבַע: כִּי-הוֹצֵאתֶם אֹתָנוּ אֶל-הַמִּדְבָּר הַזֶּה, לְהָמִית אֶת-כָּל-הַקָּהָל הַזֶּה בָּרָעָב.
 

16:4
God said to Moses, ‘I will make bread rain down to you from the sky. The people will go out and gather enough for each day. I will test them to see whether or not they will keep My law.
Vayomer Adonay el-Moshe hineni mamtir lachem lechem min-hashamayim veyatsa ha’am velaktu dvar-yom beyomo lema’an anasenu hayelech betorati im-lo.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, הִנְנִי מַמְטִיר לָכֶם לֶחֶם מִן-הַשָּׁמָיִם; וְיָצָא הָעָם וְלָקְטוּ דְּבַר-יוֹם בְּיוֹמוֹ, לְמַעַן אֲנַסֶּנּוּ הֲיֵלֵךְ בְּתוֹרָתִי אִם-לֹא.
 

16:5
On Friday, they will have to prepare what they bring home. It will be twice as much as they gather every other day.’
Vehayah bayom hashishi vehechinu et asher-yavi’u vehayah mishneh al asher-yilketu yom yom.
וְהָיָה בַּיּוֹם הַשִּׁשִּׁי, וְהֵכִינוּ אֵת אֲשֶׁר-יָבִיאוּ; וְהָיָה מִשְׁנֶה, עַל אֲשֶׁר-יִלְקְטוּ יוֹם יוֹם.
 

16:6
Moses and Aaron said to the Israelites, ‘When evening comes, you will know that it was God who took you out of Egypt;
Vayomer Moshe ve’Aharon el-kol-beney Yisra’el erev vidatem ki Adonay hotsi etchem me’erets Mitsrayim.
וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן, אֶל-כָּל-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל: עֶרֶב–וִידַעְתֶּם, כִּי יְהוָה הוֹצִיא אֶתְכֶם מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם.
 

16:7
and in the morning, you will see God’s glory. He has heard your complaints, which are against God. After all, what are we that you should complain against us?’
Uvoker ure’item et-kevod Adonay beshom’o et-tlunoteychem al-Adonay venachnu mah ki talinu aleynu.
וּבֹקֶר, וּרְאִיתֶם אֶת-כְּבוֹד יְהוָה, בְּשָׁמְעוֹ אֶת-תְּלֻנֹּתֵיכֶם, עַל-יְהוָה; וְנַחְנוּ מָה, כִּי תלונו (תַלִּינוּ) עָלֵינוּ.
 

16:8
Moses said, ‘In the evening, God will give you meat to eat, and in the morning, there will be enough bread to fill you up. God has heard your complaints, which you are actually addressing against Him. What are we? Your complaints are not against us, but against God!’
Vayomer Moshe betet Adonay lachem ba’erev basar le’echol velechem baboker lisboa bishmoa Adonay et-tlunoteychem asher-atem malinim alav venachnu mah lo-aleynu telunoteychem ki al-Adonay.
וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה, בְּתֵת יְהוָה לָכֶם בָּעֶרֶב בָּשָׂר לֶאֱכֹל וְלֶחֶם בַּבֹּקֶר לִשְׂבֹּעַ, בִּשְׁמֹעַ יְהוָה אֶת-תְּלֻנֹּתֵיכֶם, אֲשֶׁר-אַתֶּם מַלִּינִם עָלָיו; וְנַחְנוּ מָה, לֹא-עָלֵינוּ תְלֻנֹּתֵיכֶם כִּי עַל-יְהוָה.
 

16:9
Moses said to Aaron, ‘Tell the entire Israelite community to gather before God, for He has heard your complaints.’
Vayomer Moshe el-Aharon emor el-kol-adat beney Yisra’el kirevu lifney Adonay ki shama et telunoteychem.
וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה, אֶל-אַהֲרֹן, אֱמֹר אֶל-כָּל-עֲדַת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, קִרְבוּ לִפְנֵי יְהוָה: כִּי שָׁמַע, אֵת תְּלֻנֹּתֵיכֶם.
 

16:10
When Aaron spoke to the entire Israelite community, they turned toward the desert. God’s glory was visible in the clouds.
Vayehi kedaber Aharon el-kol-adat beney Yisra’el vayifnu el-hamidbar vehineh kvod Adonay nir’ah be’anan.
וַיְהִי, כְּדַבֵּר אַהֲרֹן אֶל-כָּל-עֲדַת בְּנֵי-יִשְׂרָאֵל, וַיִּפְנוּ, אֶל-הַמִּדְבָּר; וְהִנֵּה כְּבוֹד יְהוָה, נִרְאָה בֶּעָנָן.
