Bo Hebrew Parsha – 7th Aliyah

Bo (בֹּא)

Exodus 10:1 – 13:16

Seventh Aliyah

13:1
God spoke to Moses, saying,
Vayedaber Adonay el-Moshe lemor.

13:2
‘Sanctify to Me every first-born that initiates the womb among the Israelites. Among both man and beast, it is Mine.’
Kadesh-li chol-bechor peter kol-rechem biveney-Yisra’el ba’adam uvabehemah li hu.

13:3
Moses said to the people: Remember this day as [the time] you left Egypt, the place of slavery, when God brought you out of here with a show of force. No leaven may be eaten.
Vayomer Moshe el-ha’am zachor et-hayom hazeh asher yetsatem miMitsrayim mibeyt avadim ki bechozek yad hotsi Adonay etchem mizeh velo ye’achel chamets.

13:4
You left this day, in the month of standing grain.
Hayom atem yotse’im bechodesh ha’aviv.

13:5
There will come a time when God will bring you to the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Hivites and Yebusites.
ehayah chi-yevi’acha Adonay el-erets haKna’ani vehaChiti veha’Emori vehaChivi vehaYevusi asher nishba la’avoteycha latet lach erets zavat chalav udevash ve’avadeta et-ha’avodah hazot bachodesh hazeh.

13:6
Eat matzahs for seven days, and make the seventh day a festival to God.
Shiv’at yamim tochal matsot uvayom hashvi’i chag l’Adonay.

13:7
Since matzahs must be eaten for [these] seven days, no leaven may be seen in your possession. No leaven may be seen in all your territories.
Matsot ye’achel et shiv’at hayamim velo-yera’eh lecha chamets velo-yera’eh lecha se’or bechol-gvulecha.

13:8
On that day, you must tell your child, ‘It is because of this that God acted for me when I left Egypt.’
Vehigadeta levincha bayom hahu lemor ba’avur zeh asah Adonay li betseti miMitsrayim.

13:9
[These words] must also be a sign on your arm and a reminder in the center of your head. God’s Torah will then be on your tongue. It was with a show of strength that God brought you out of Egypt.
Vehayah lecha le’ot al-yadcha ulezikaron beyn eyneycha lema’an tihyeh torat Adonay beficha ki beyad chazakah hotsi’acha Adonay miMitsrayim.

13:10
This law must therefore be kept at its designated time from year to year.
Veshamarta et-hachukah hazot lemo’adah miyamim yamimah.

13:11
There will come a time when God will have brought you to the land of the Canaanites, which he promised you and your ancestors, and he will have given it to you.
Vehayah ki-yevi’acha Adonay el-erets haKna’ani ka’asher nishba lecha vela’avoteycha unetanah lach.

13:12
You will then bring to God every [first-born] that initiates the womb. Whenever you have a young firstling animal, the males belong to God.
Veha’avarta chol-peter-rechem l’Adonay vechol-peter sheger behemah asher yihyeh lecha hazecharim l’Adonay.

13:13
Every firstling donkey must be redeemed with a sheep. If it is not redeemed, you must decapitate it. You must [also] redeem every first-born among your sons.
Vechol-peter chamor tifdeh veseh ve’im-lo tifdeh va’arafto vechol bechor adam bevaneycha tifdeh.
