BeChuko-Thai(בְּחֻקֹּתַי)

Leviticus 26:3 – 27:24

Third Aliyah

26:10
You will continue eating the previous year’s crops long after their time, and you will eventually have to clear out the old crops because of the new.
Va’achaltem yashan noshan veyashan mipney chadash totsi’u.

26:11
I will keep My sanctuary in your midst, and not grow tired of you.
Venatati Mishkani betochechem velo-tig’al nafshi etchem.

26:12
I will make My presence felt among you. Thus, I will be a God to you, and you will be a nation [dedicated] to Me.
Vehithalachti betochechem vehayiti lachem le-Elohim ve’atem tihyu-li le’am.

26:13
I am God your Lord. I brought you out from Egypt, where you were slaves. I broke the bands of your yoke, and led you forth with your heads held high.
Ani Adonay Eloheychem asher hotseti etchem me’erets Mitsrayim miheyot lahem avadim va’eshbor motot ulechem va’olech etchem komemi’ut.

26:14
[But this is what will happen] if you do not listen to Me, and do not keep all these commandments.

26:15
If you come to denigrate My decrees, and grow tired of My laws, then you will not keep all My commandments, and you will have broken My covenant.
Ve’im-bechukotay tim’asu ve’im et-mishpatay tig’al nafshechem levilti asot et-kol-mitsvotay lehafrechem et-beriti.

26:16
I will then do the same to you. I will bring upon you feelings of anxiety, along with depression and excitement, destroying your outlook and making life hopeless. You will plant your crop in vain, because your enemies will eat it.
Af-ani e’eseh-zot lachem vehifkadeti aleychem behalah et-hashachefet ve’et-hakadachat mechalot eynayim umedivot nafesh uzratem larik zar’achem va’achaluhu oyveychem.

26:17
I will direct My anger against you, so that you will be defeated by your foes, and your enemies will dominate you. You will flee even when no one is chasing you.
Venatati fanay bachem venigaftem lifney oyveychem veradu vachem son’eychem venastem ve’eyn-rodef etchem.

26:18
If you still do not listen to Me, I will increase the punishment for your sins sevenfold.
Ve’im-ad-eleh lo tishme’u li veyasafti leyasrah etchem sheva al-chatoteychem

26:19
I will break your aggressive pride, making your skies like iron, and your land like brass.
Veshavarti et-ge’on uzchem venatati et-shmeychem kabarzel ve’et-artsechem kanechushah.

26:20
You will exhaust your strength in vain, since your land will not yield its crops, and the trees of the land will not produce fruit.

26:21
If you are indifferent to Me and lose the desire to obey Me, I will again increase the punishment for your sins sevenfold.
Ve’im-telchu imi keri velo tovu lishmoa li veyasafti aleychem makah sheva kechat’oteychem.

26:22
I will send wild beasts among you, killing your children, destroying your livestock, and reducing your population, so that the roads will become deserted.
Vehishlachti vachem et-chayat hasadeh veshiklah etchem vehichritah et-behemtechem vehim’itah etchem venashamu darcheychem.

26:23
If this is not enough to discipline you, and you are still indifferent to Me,
Ve’im-be’eleh lo tivasru li vahalachtem imi keri.

26:24
then I will also be indifferent to you, but I will again increase the punishment for your sins sevenfold.
Vehalachti af-ani imachem bekeri vehikeyti etchem gam-ani sheva al-chat’oteychem.

26:25
I will bring a vengeful sword against you to avenge [My] covenant, so that you will huddle in your cities. I will send the plague against you, and give you over to your enemies.
Veheveti aleychem cherev nokemet nekam-berit vene’esaftem el-areychem veshilachti dever betochechem venitatem beyad-oyev.

26:26
I will cut off your food supply so that ten women will be able to bake bread in one oven, bringing back only [a small] amount of bread. You will eat, but you will not be satisfied.
Beshivri lachem mateh-lechem ve’afu eser nashim lachmechem betanur echad veheshivu lachmechem bamishkal va’achaltem velo tisba’u.

26:27
If you still do not obey Me and remain indifferent to Me,
Ve’im-bezot lo tishme’u li vahalachtem imi bekeri.

26:28
then I will be indifferent to you with a vengeance, bringing yet another sevenfold increase in the punishment for your sins.
Vehalachti imachem bachamat-keri veyisarti etchem af-ani sheva al-chat’oteychem.

26:29
You will eat the flesh of your sons, and make a meal of the flesh of your daughters.
Va’achaltem besar beneychem uvesar benoteychem tochelu.

26:30
When I destroy your altars and smash your sun gods, I will let your corpses rot on the remains of your idols. I will thus have grown tired of you.
Vehishmadeti et-bamoteychem vehichrati et-chamaneychem venatati et-pigreychem al-pigrey giluleychem vega’alah nafshi etchem.

26:31
I will let your cities fall into ruins, and make your sanctuaries desolate. No longer will I accept the appeasing fragrance [of your sacrifices].
Venatati et-areychem chorbah vahashimoti et-mikdesheychem velo ariach bere’ach nichochachem.

26:32
I will make the land so desolate that [even] your enemies who live there will be astonished.
Vahashimoti ani et-ha’arets veshamemu aleyha oyveychem hayoshvim bah.

26:33
I will scatter you among the nations, and keep the sword drawn against you. Your land will remain desolate, and your cities in ruins.
Ve’etchem ezareh vagoyim vaharikoti achareychem charev vehayetah artsechem shmamah ve’areychem yihyu chorbah.

26:34
Then, as long as the land is desolate and you are in your enemies’ land, the land will enjoy its sabbaths. The land will rest and enjoy its sabbatical years.

26:35
Thus, as long as it is desolate, [the land] will enjoy the sabbatical rest that you would not give it when you lived there.
Kol-yemey hoshamah tishbot et asher lo-shavetah beshabtoteychem beshivtechem aleyha.

26:36
I will bring such insecurity upon those of you who survive in your enemies’ land that the sound of a rustling leaf will make them flee from the sword. They will fall with no one chasing them.
Vehanish’arim bachem veheveti morech bilevavam be’artsot oyeveyhem veradaf otam kol aleh nidaf venasu menusat-cherev venaflu ve’eyn rodef.

26:37
They will fall over one another as if [chased] by the sword, even when there is no one pursuing. You will have no means of standing up before your foes.
Vechashlu ish-be’achiv kemipney-cherev verodef ayin velo-tihyeh lachem tekumah lifney oyveychem.

26:38
You will thus be destroyed among the nations. The land of your enemies will consume you.
Va’avadetem bagoyim ve’achlah etchem erets oyveychem.

26:39
The few of you who survive in your enemies’ lands will [realize that] your survival is threatened as a result of your nonobservance. [These few] will also [realize] that their survival has been threatened because of the nonobservance of their fathers.
Vehanish’arim bachem yimaku ba’avonam be’artsot oyveychem ve’af ba’avonot avotam itam yimaku.

26:40
They will then confess their sins and the sins of their fathers for being false and remaining indifferent to Me.
Vehitvadu et-avonam ve’et-avon avotam bema’alam asher ma’alu-vi ve’af asher-halchu imi bekeri.

26:41
[It was for this] that I also remained indifferent to them, and brought them into their enemies’ land. But when the time finally comes that their stubborn spirit is humbled, I will forgive their sin.
Af-ani elech imam bekeri veheveti otam be’erets oyeveyhem o-az yikana levavam he’arel ve’az yirtsu et-avonam.

26:42
I will remember My covenant with Jacob as well as My covenant with Isaac and My covenant with Abraham. I will remember the land.
Vezacharti et-briti Ya’akov ve’af et-briti Yitschak ve’af et-briti Averaham ezkor veha’arets ezkor.

26:43
[For] the land will have been left behind by them, and will have enjoyed its sabbaths while it lay in desolation without them. The sin [they had committed] by denigrating My laws and growing tired of My decrees, will [also] have been expiated.
Veha’arets te’azev mehem vetirets et-shabtoteyha bashamah mehem vehem yirtsu et-avonam ya’an uveya’an bemishpatay ma’asu ve’et-chukotay ga’alah nafsham.

26:44
Thus, even when they are in their enemies’ land, I will not grow so disgusted with them nor so tired of them that I would destroy them and break My covenant with them, since I am God their Lord.
Ve’af-gam-zot biheyotam be’erets oyveyhem lo-me’astim velo-ge’altim lechalotam lehafer briti itam ki ani Adonay Eloheyhem.

26:45
I will therefore remember the covenant with their original ancestors whom I brought out of Egypt in the sight of the nations, so as to be a God to them. I am God.
Vezacharti lahem brit rishonim asher hotseti-otam me’erets Mitsrayim le’eyney hagoyim lihyot lahem le-Elohim ani Adonay.

26:46
These are the decrees, laws and codes that God set between Himself and the Israelites at Mount Sinai through the hand of Moses.
Eleh hachukim vehamishpatim vehatorot asher natan Adonay beyno uveyn beney Yisra’el behar Sinay beyad-Moshe.
