Emor Hebrew Parsha – 4th Aliyah

Emor (וַיֹּאמֶר)

Leviticus 21:1 – 24:23

Fourth Aliyah

23:1
God spoke to Moses, telling him to
Vayedaber Adonay el-Moshe lemor.

23:2
speak to the Israelites and say to them: There are special times that you must celebrate as sacred holidays to God. The following are My special times:
Daber el-beney Yisra’el ve’amarta alehem mo’adey Adonay asher-tikre’u otam mikra’ey kodesh eleh hem mo’aday.

23:3
You may do work during the six weekdays, but Saturday is a Sabbath of Sabbaths. It is a sacred holiday to God, when you shall do no work. Wherever you may live, it is God’s Sabbath.
Sheshet yamim te’aseh melachah uvayom hashvi’i Shabat Shabaton mikra-kodesh kol-melachah lo ta’asu Shabat hi l’Adonay bechol moshvoteychem.

23:4
These are God’s festivals that you must celebrate as sacred holidays at their appropriate times:
Eleh mo’adey Adonay mikra’ey kodesh asher-tikre’u otam bemo’adam.

23:5
The afternoon of the 14th day of the first month is [the time that you must sacrifice] God’s Passover offering.
Bachodesh harishon be’arba’ah asar lachodesh beyn ha’arba’im pesach l’Adonay.

23:6
Then, on the 15th of that month, it is God’s festival of matzahs, when you eat matzahs for seven days.
Uvachamishah asar yom lachodesh hazeh chag hamatsot l’Adonay shiv’at yamim matsot tochelu.

23:7
The first day shall be a sacred holiday to you, when you may not do any service work.
Bayom harishon mikra-kodesh yihyeh lachem kol-melechet avodah lo ta’asu.

23:8
You shall then bring sacrifices to God for seven days. The seventh day is a sacred holiday when you may not do any service work.
Vehikravtem isheh l’Adonay shiv’at yamim bayom hashvi’i mikra-kodesh kol-melechet avodah lo ta’asu.

23:9
God spoke to Moses, telling him to
Vayedaber Adonay el-Moshe lemor.

23:10
speak to the Israelites and say to them: When you come to the land that I am going to give you, and you reap its harvest, you must bring an omer of your first reaping to the priest.
Daber el-beney Yisra’el ve’amarta alehem ki-tavo’u el-ha’arets asher ani noten lachem uktsartem et-ketsirah vahavetem et-omer reshit ketsirchem el-hakohen.

23:11
He shall wave it in the motions prescribed for a wave offering to God, so that it will be acceptable for you. The priest shall make this wave offering on the day after the first day of the [Passover] holiday.
Vehenif et-ha’omer lifney Adonay lirtsonchem mimochorat haShabat yenifenu hakohen.

23:12
On the day you make the wave offering of the omer, you shall prepare an unblemished yearling sheep as a burnt offering to God.

23:13
Its meal offering shall be two-tenths [of an ephah] of wheat meal, mixed with oil, a fire offering to God. Its libation offering shall be one-fourth hin of wine.
Uminchato sheney esronim solet blulah vashemen isheh l’Adonay re’ach nichoach veniskoh yayin revi’it hahin.

23:14
Until the day that you bring this sacrifice to your God, you may not eat bread, roasted grain or fresh grain. This shall be an eternal law for all generations, no matter where you live.
Velechem vekali vecharmel lo tochlu ad-etsem hayom hazeh ad havi’achem et-korban Eloheychem chukat olam ledoroteychem bechol moshvoteychem.

23:15
You shall then count seven complete weeks after the day following the [Passover] holiday when you brought the omer as a wave offering,
Usfartem lachem mimochorat haShabat miyom havi’achem et-omer hatnufah sheva Shabatot tmimot tihyeynah.

23:16
until the day after the seventh week, when there will be [a total of] 50 days. [On that 50th day] you may present new grain as a meal offering to God.
Ad mimochorat haShabat hashvi’it tisperu chamishim yom vehikravtem minchah chadashah l’Adonay.

23:17
From the land upon which you live, you shall bring two loaves of bread as a wave offering. They shall be made of two-tenths [of an ephah] of wheat meal, and shall be baked as leavened bread. They are the first-harvest offering to God.
Mimoshvoteychem tavi’u lechem tnufah shtayim shney esronim solet tihyeynah chamets te’afeynah bikurim l’Adonay.

23:18
Together with this bread, you shall sacrifice seven unblemished yearling sheep, one young bull, and two rams. These, along with their meal offerings and libations shall be a burnt offering to God, a fire offering as an appeasing fragrance to God.
Vehikravtem al-halechem shiv’at kvasim tmimim bney shanah ufar ben-bakar echad ve’eylim shnayim yihyu olah l’Adonay uminchatam veniskeyhem isheh re’ach-nichoach l’Adonay.

23:19
You shall also prepare one goat as a sin offering, and two yearling sheep as peace sacrifices.
Va’asitem se’ir-izim echad lechatat ushney chvasim beney shanah lezevach shlamim.

23:20
The priest shall make the motions prescribed for a wave offering before God with the bread for the first-harvest offering and the two sheep. They belong to the priest as something sacred to God.
Vehenif hakohen otam al lechem habikurim tnufah lifney Adonay al-shney kevasim kodesh yihyu l’Adonay lakohen.

23:21
This very day shall be celebrated as a sacred holiday when no service work may be done. This is an eternal law for all generations, no matter where you may live
Ukeratem be’etsem hayom hazeh mikra-kodesh yihyeh lachem kol-melechet avodah lo ta’asu chukat olam bechol-moshvoteychem ledoroteychem.

23:22
[Furthermore,] when you reap your land’s harvest, do not completely harvest the ends of your fields. [Also] do not pick up individual stalks that may have fallen. You must leave [all these] for the poor and the stranger. I am God your Lord.
Uvekutsrechem et-ketsir artsechem lo-techaleh pe’at sadcha bekutsrecha veleket ketsircha lo telaket le’ani velager ta’azov otam ani Adonay Eloheychem.
