23:23
God spoke to Moses, telling him to
Vayedaber Adonay el-Moshe lemor.
וַיְדַבֵּר יְהוָה, אֶל-מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר.

23:24
speak to the Israelites and say: The first day of the seventh month shall be a day of rest. It is a sacred holiday for remembrance [and] sounding [of the ram’s horn].
Daber el-beney Yisra’el lemor bachodesh hashvi’i be’echad lachodesh yihyeh lachem Shabaton zichron tru’ah mikra kodesh.
דַּבֵּר אֶל-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, לֵאמֹר: בַּחֹדֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִיעִי בְּאֶחָד לַחֹדֶשׁ, יִהְיֶה לָכֶם שַׁבָּתוֹן–זִכְרוֹן תְּרוּעָה, מִקְרָא-קֹדֶשׁ.

23:25
Do not do any service work [on that day]. Bring a fire offering to God.
Kol-melechet avodah lo ta’asu vehikravtem isheh l’Adonay.
כָּל-מְלֶאכֶת עֲבֹדָה, לֹא תַעֲשׂוּ; וְהִקְרַבְתֶּם אִשֶּׁה, לַיהוָה.

23:26
God spoke to Moses, saying:
Vayedaber Adonay el-Moshe lemor.
וַיְדַבֵּר יְהוָה, אֶל-מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר.

23:27
The 10th of this seventh month shall be the Day of Atonement for you. It is a sacred holiday when you must fast and bring a fire offering to God.
Ach be’asor lachodesh hashevi’i hazeh Yom haKipurim hu mikra-kodesh yihyeh lachem ve’initem et-nafshoteychem vehikravtem isheh l’Adonay.
אַךְ בֶּעָשׂוֹר לַחֹדֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִיעִי הַזֶּה יוֹם הַכִּפֻּרִים הוּא, מִקְרָא-קֹדֶשׁ יִהְיֶה לָכֶם, וְעִנִּיתֶם, אֶת-נַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶם; וְהִקְרַבְתֶּם אִשֶּׁה, לַיהוָה.

23:28
Do not do any work on this day; it is a day of atonement, when you gain atonement before God your Lord.
Vechol-melachah lo-ta’asu be’etsem hayom hazeh ki Yom Kipurim hu lechaper aleychem lifney Adonay Eloheychem.
וְכָל-מְלָאכָה לֹא תַעֲשׂוּ, בְּעֶצֶם הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה: כִּי יוֹם כִּפֻּרִים, הוּא, לְכַפֵּר עֲלֵיכֶם, לִפְנֵי יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם.

23:29
If anyone does not fast on this day, he shall be cut off [spiritually] from his people.
Ki chol-hanefesh asher lo-te’uneh be’etsem hayom hazeh venichretah me’ameyha.
כִּי כָל-הַנֶּפֶשׁ אֲשֶׁר לֹא-תְעֻנֶּה, בְּעֶצֶם הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה–וְנִכְרְתָה, מֵעַמֶּיהָ.

23:30
[Similarly,] if one does any work on this day, I will destroy him [spiritually] from among his people.
Vechol-hanefesh asher ta’aseh kol-melachah be’etsem hayom hazeh veha’avadeti et-hanefesh hahi mikerev amah.
וְכָל-הַנֶּפֶשׁ, אֲשֶׁר תַּעֲשֶׂה כָּל-מְלָאכָה, בְּעֶצֶם, הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה–וְהַאֲבַדְתִּי אֶת-הַנֶּפֶשׁ הַהִוא, מִקֶּרֶב עַמָּהּ.

23:31
Do not do any work [on this day]. This is an eternal law for all generations, no matter where you may live.
Kol melachah lo ta’asu chukat olam ledoroteychem bechol moshvoteychem.
כָּל-מְלָאכָה, לֹא תַעֲשׂוּ: חֻקַּת עוֹלָם לְדֹרֹתֵיכֶם, בְּכֹל מֹשְׁבֹתֵיכֶם.

23:32
It is a sabbath of sabbaths to you, [and a day] when you must fast. You must keep this holiday from the ninth of the month until [the next] night.
Shabat Shabaton hu lachem ve’initem et-nafshoteychem betish’ah lachodesh ba’erev me’erev ad-erev tishbetu Shabatchem.
שַׁבַּת שַׁבָּתוֹן הוּא לָכֶם, וְעִנִּיתֶם אֶת-נַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶם; בְּתִשְׁעָה לַחֹדֶשׁ, בָּעֶרֶב–מֵעֶרֶב עַד-עֶרֶב, תִּשְׁבְּתוּ שַׁבַּתְּכֶם.
