Fourth Aliyah

24:27
He said, ‘Blessed be God, Lord of my master Abraham, who has not withdrawn the kindness and truth that He grants to my master. Here I am, still on the road, and God has led me to the house of my master’s close relatives!’
Vayomer baruch Adonay Elohey adoni Avraham asher lo-azav chasdo va’amito me’im adoni anochi baderech nachani Adonay beyt achey adoni.

24:28
The girl ran to her mother’s quarters and told her what had happened.
Vatarots hana’arah vataged leveyt imah kadevarim ha’eleh.

24:29
Rebecca had a brother named Laban. He ran outside to the stranger, to the well.
Ule-Rivkah ach ushemo Lavan vayarots Lavan el-ha’ish hachutsah el-ha’ayin.

24:30
He had seen the ring, and the bracelets on his sister’s arms, and had heard his sister Rebecca relating what the man had said to her. He came to the stranger, who was still standing beside the camels near the well,
Vayehi kir’ot et-hanezem ve’et hatsmidim al-yedey achoto ucheshome’o et-diverey Rivekah achoto lemor koh-diber elay ha’ish vayavo el-ha’ish vehineh omed al-hagmalim al-ha’ayin.

24:31
and said, ‘Come! [You’re a man] blessed by God! Why are you still standing there outside? I have cleaned the house and prepared a place for the camels.
Vayomer bo beruch Adonay lamah ta’amod bachuts ve’anochi piniti habayit umakom lagmalim.

24:32
The stranger came into the house and unmuzzled the camels. [Laban] gave the camels straw and fodder, and provided water [for the stranger] and the men with him to wash their feet.
Vayavo ha’ish habaytah vayefatach hagemalim vayiten teven umispo lagemalim umayim lirchots raglav veragley ha’anashim asher ito.

24:33
Food was served, but [the stranger] said, ‘I will not eat until I have spoken my piece.’ ‘Speak,’ replied [the host].

24:34
[The stranger] said, ‘I am Abraham’s servant.
Vayomar eved Avraham anochi.

24:35
God granted my master a very great blessing, and he prospered. [God] granted him sheep, cattle, silver, gold, slaves, slavegirls, camels and donkeys.
V’Adonay berach et-adoni me’od vayigdal vayiten-lo tson uvakar vechesef vezahav va’avadim ushfachot ugmalim vachamorim.

24:36
Finally, my master’s wife Sarah gave birth to a son for my master after she had grown very old, and [my master] gave him all that he owned.

24:37
‘My master bound me by an oath: ‘Do not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I live.
Vayashbi’eyni adoni lemor lo-tikach ishah livni mibenot haKna’ani asher anochi yoshev be’artso.

24:38
Instead, you must go to my father’s house, to my family, and there you shall get a wife for my son.’
Im-lo el-beyt-avi telech ve’el-mishpachti velakachta ishah liveni.

24:39
‘I said to my master, ‘But what if the girl will not come back with me?’

24:40
He said to me, ‘God, before whom I have walked, will send His angel with you and make your mission successful. But you must find a wife for my son from my family and from my father’s house.
Vayomer elay Adonay asher-hithalachti lefanav yishlach mal’acho itach vehitsliach darkecha velakachta ishah livni mimishpachti umibeyt-avi.

24:41
There is only one way that you can be free of my dread oath. If you go to my family and they do not give you a girl, you will be released from my dread oath.’
Az tinake me’alati ki tavo el-mishpachti ve’im lo yitnu lach vehayita naki me’alati.

24:42
‘Now today I came to the well, and I prayed, ‘O God, Lord of my master Abraham, if You will, grant success to this mission that I am undertaking.

24:43
I am now standing by the town well. When a girl comes out to draw water, I will say to her, ‘Let me drink some water from your jug.’
Hineh anochi nitsav al-eyn hamayim vehayah ha’almah hayotset lish’ov ve’amarti eleyha hashkini-na me’at-mayim mikadech.

24:44
If she answers, ‘Not only may you drink, but I will also draw water for your camels,’ then she is the wife designated by God for my master’s son.’
Ve’amrah elay gam-atah sheteh vegam-ligmaleycha esh’av hi ha’ishah asher hochiach Adonay leven-adoni.

24:45
‘I had not yet finished speaking to myself, when Rebecca suddenly came out, carrying her jug on her shoulder. When she went down to the well and drew water, I said to her, ‘Please give me a drink.’
Ani terem achaleh ledaber el-libi vehineh Rivkah yotset vechadah al-shichmah vatered ha’ayenah vatish’av va’omar eleyha haskini na.

24:46
She immediately lowered her jug and said, ‘Drink! I will also water your camels.’ I took a drink, and she also gave the camels water.
Vatemaher vatored kadah me’aleyha vatomer sheteh vegam-gemaleycha ashkeh va’esht vegam hagemalim hishkatah.

24:47
‘I questioned her and asked, ‘Whose daughter are you?’ She replied, ‘I am a daughter of Bethuel, son of Nachor, whom Milcah bore to him.’ I then placed a ring on her nose, and bracelets on her arms.

24:48
I bowed low and prostrated myself to God. I blessed God, Lord of my master Abraham, who led me on a true path to get a niece of my master for his son.

24:49
‘Now if you want to do what is kind and right to my master, tell me. If not, say so, and I will go to the right or to the left.’
Ve’atah im-yeshchem osim chesed ve’emet et-adoni hagidu li ve’im-lo hagidu li ve’efneh al-yamin o al-smol.

24:50
Laban and Bethuel [both] spoke up. ‘It is something from God!’ they said. ‘We cannot say anything to you, bad or good.
Vaya’an Lavan uVetu’el vayomeru me’Adonay yatsa hadavar lo nuchal daber eleycha ra o-tov.

24:51
Rebecca is right here in front of you. Take her and go. Let her be a wife for your master’s son, as God has spoken.’
Hineh-Rivkah lefaneycha kach valech utehi ishah leven-adoneycha ka’asher diber Adonay.

24:52
When Abraham’s servant heard these words, he prostrated himself on the ground to God.
Vayehi ka’asher shama eved Avraham et-divreyhem vayishtachu artsa la’Adonay.
