7:8
God said to Moses and Aaron,
Vayomer Adonay el-Moshe ve’el-Aharon lemor.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה, אֶל-מֹשֶׁה וְאֶל-אַהֲרֹן לֵאמֹר.
 

7:9
‘When Pharaoh speaks to you, he will tell you to prove yourself with a miraculous sign. You [Moses] must then tell Aaron, ‘Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh. Let it become a viper!’ ‘
Ki yedaber alechem Par’oh lemor tnu lachem mofet ve’amarta el-Aharon kach et-matcha vehashlech lifney Far’oh yehi letanin.
כִּי יְדַבֵּר אֲלֵכֶם פַּרְעֹה לֵאמֹר, תְּנוּ לָכֶם מוֹפֵת; וְאָמַרְתָּ אֶל-אַהֲרֹן, קַח אֶת-מַטְּךָ וְהַשְׁלֵךְ לִפְנֵי-פַרְעֹה–יְהִי לְתַנִּין.
 

7:10
Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh. They did exactly as God had said. Aaron threw his staff down before Pharaoh, and it became a viper.
Vayavo Moshe ve’Aharon el-Par’oh vaya’asu chen ka’asher tsiva Adonay vayashlech Aharon et-matehu lifney Far’oh velifney avadav vayehi letanin.
וַיָּבֹא מֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן, אֶל-פַּרְעֹה, וַיַּעֲשׂוּ כֵן, כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוָה; וַיַּשְׁלֵךְ אַהֲרֹן אֶת-מַטֵּהוּ, לִפְנֵי פַרְעֹה וְלִפְנֵי עֲבָדָיו–וַיְהִי לְתַנִּין.
 

7:11
Pharaoh summoned his scholars and magicians. The master symbolists were able to do the same thing with their magic tricks.
Vayikra gam Par’oh lachachamim velamechashefim vaya’asu gam-hem chartumey Mitsrayim belahateyhem ken.
וַיִּקְרָא, גַּם-פַּרְעֹה, לַחֲכָמִים, וְלַמְכַשְּׁפִים; וַיַּעֲשׂוּ גַם-הֵם חַרְטֻמֵּי מִצְרַיִם, בְּלַהֲטֵיהֶם–כֵּן.
 

7:12
When each one threw down his staff, [the staffs] all turned into vipers. Aaron’s staff then swallowed up their staffs.
Vayashlichu ish matehu vayihyu letaninim vayivla mateh-Aharon et-matotam.
וַיַּשְׁלִיכוּ אִישׁ מַטֵּהוּ, וַיִּהְיוּ לְתַנִּינִם; וַיִּבְלַע מַטֵּה-אַהֲרֹן, אֶת-מַטֹּתָם.
 

7:13
But Pharaoh remained obstinate and did not pay attention to them, just as God had predicted.
Vayechezak lev Par’oh velo shama alehem ka’asher diber Adonay.
וַיֶּחֱזַק לֵב פַּרְעֹה, וְלֹא שָׁמַע אֲלֵהֶם: כַּאֲשֶׁר, דִּבֶּר יְהוָה.
 

7:14
God said to Moses, ‘Pharaoh is obstinate and he refuses to let the people leave.
Vayomer Adonay el-Moshe kaved lev Par’oh me’en leshalach ha’am.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, כָּבֵד לֵב פַּרְעֹה; מֵאֵן, לְשַׁלַּח הָעָם.
 

7:15
Pay a call on Pharaoh in the morning, when he goes out to the water. Stand where you will meet him on the bank of the Nile. Take in your hand the staff that was transformed into a snake.
Lech el-Par’oh baboker hineh yotse hamaymah venitsavta likrato al-sfat haYe’or vehamateh asher-nehepach lenachash tikach beyadecha.
לֵךְ אֶל-פַּרְעֹה בַּבֹּקֶר, הִנֵּה יֹצֵא הַמַּיְמָה, וְנִצַּבְתָּ לִקְרָאתוֹ, עַל-שְׂפַת הַיְאֹר; וְהַמַּטֶּה אֲשֶׁר-נֶהְפַּךְ לְנָחָשׁ, תִּקַּח בְּיָדֶךָ.
 

7:16
‘Say to him: God, Lord of the Hebrews, has sent me to you with the message, ‘Let My people leave, and let them worship Me in the desert.’ So far, you have not paid attention.
Ve’amarta elav Adonay Elohey ha’Ivrim shlachani eleycha lemor shalach et-ami veya’avduni bamidbar vehineh lo-shamata ad-koh.
וְאָמַרְתָּ אֵלָיו, יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי הָעִבְרִים שְׁלָחַנִי אֵלֶיךָ לֵאמֹר, שַׁלַּח אֶת-עַמִּי, וְיַעַבְדֻנִי בַּמִּדְבָּר; וְהִנֵּה לֹא-שָׁמַעְתָּ, עַד-כֹּה.
 

7:17
God [now] says, ‘Through this you will know that I am God.’ I will strike the water of the Nile with the staff in my hand, and [the water] will turn into blood.
Koh amar Adonay bezot teda ki ani Adonay hineh anochi makeh bamateh asher-beyadi al-hamayim asher baYe’or venehefchu ledam.
כֹּה, אָמַר יְהוָה, בְּזֹאת תֵּדַע, כִּי אֲנִי יְהוָה: הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי מַכֶּה בַּמַּטֶּה אֲשֶׁר-בְּיָדִי, עַל-הַמַּיִם אֲשֶׁר בַּיְאֹר–וְנֶהֶפְכוּ לְדָם.
 

7:18
The fish in the Nile will die, and the river will become putrid. The Egyptians will have to stop drinking water from the Nile.’
Vehadagah asher-baYe’or tamut uva’ash haYe’or venil’u Mitsrayim lishtot mayim min-haYe’or.
וְהַדָּגָה אֲשֶׁר-בַּיְאֹר תָּמוּת, וּבָאַשׁ הַיְאֹר; וְנִלְאוּ מִצְרַיִם, לִשְׁתּוֹת מַיִם מִן-הַיְאֹר.
 

7:19
God said to Moses, ‘Tell Aaron to take his staff and extend his hand over the waters of Egypt – over their rivers, their canals, their reservoirs, and every place where water is kept – and [the water] shall turn into blood. There will be blood throughout all Egypt, even in wooden [barrels] and stone [jars].’
Vayomer Adonay el-Moshe emor el-Aharon kach matecha unteh-yadecha al-meymey Mitsrayim al-naharotam al-ye’oreyhem ve’al-agmeyhem ve’al kol-mikveh meymeyhem veyihyu dam vehayah dam bechol-erets Mitsrayim uva’etsim uva’avanim.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, אֱמֹר אֶל-אַהֲרֹן קַח מַטְּךָ וּנְטֵה-יָדְךָ עַל-מֵימֵי מִצְרַיִם עַל-נַהֲרֹתָם עַל-יְאֹרֵיהֶם וְעַל-אַגְמֵיהֶם וְעַל כָּל-מִקְוֵה מֵימֵיהֶם–וְיִהְיוּ-דָם; וְהָיָה דָם בְּכָל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם, וּבָעֵצִים וּבָאֲבָנִים.
 

7:20
Moses and Aaron did exactly as God had instructed. [Aaron] held the staff up, and then struck the Nile’s water in the presence of Pharaoh and his officials. The Nile’s water was transformed into blood.
Vaya’asu chen Moshe ve’Aharon ka’asher tsivah Adonay vayarem bamateh vayach et-hamayim asher baYe’or le’eyney Far’oh ule’eyney avadav vayehafechu kol-hamayim asher-baYe’or ledam.
וַיַּעֲשׂוּ-כֵן מֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוָה, וַיָּרֶם בַּמַּטֶּה וַיַּךְ אֶת-הַמַּיִם אֲשֶׁר בַּיְאֹר, לְעֵינֵי פַרְעֹה, וּלְעֵינֵי עֲבָדָיו; וַיֵּהָפְכוּ כָּל-הַמַּיִם אֲשֶׁר-בַּיְאֹר, לְדָם.
 

7:21
The fish in the Nile died, and the river became so polluted that the Egyptians were no longer able to drink the Nile’s water. There was blood everywhere in Egypt.
Vehadagah asher baYe’or metah vayiv’ash haYe’or velo-yachlu Mitsrayim lishtot mayim min-haYe’or vayehi hadam bechol-erets Mitsrayim.
וְהַדָּגָה אֲשֶׁר-בַּיְאֹר מֵתָה, וַיִּבְאַשׁ הַיְאֹר, וְלֹא-יָכְלוּ מִצְרַיִם, לִשְׁתּוֹת מַיִם מִן-הַיְאֹר; וַיְהִי הַדָּם, בְּכָל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם.
 

7:22
However, when the master symbolists of Egypt were able to produce the same effect with their hidden arts, Pharaoh became obstinate. He would not pay attention to [Moses and Aaron], just as God had predicted.
Vaya’asu chen chartumey Mitsrayim belateyhem vayechezak lev-Par’oh velo-shama alehem ka’asher diber Adonay.
וַיַּעֲשׂוּ-כֵן חַרְטֻמֵּי מִצְרַיִם, בְּלָטֵיהֶם; וַיֶּחֱזַק לֵב-פַּרְעֹה וְלֹא-שָׁמַע אֲלֵהֶם, כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יְהוָה.
 

7:23
Pharaoh turned his back to them and went to his palace. Even to this [miracle], he would not pay attention.
Vayifen Par’oh vayavo el-beyto velo-shat libo gam-lazot.
וַיִּפֶן פַּרְעֹה, וַיָּבֹא אֶל-בֵּיתוֹ; וְלֹא-שָׁת לִבּוֹ, גַּם-לָזֹאת.
 

7:24
The Egyptians dug around the Nile for drinking water, since they could not drink any water from the river.
Vayachperu chol-Mitsrayim svivot haYe’or mayim lishtot ki lo yachlu lishtot mimeymey haYe’or.
וַיַּחְפְּרוּ כָל-מִצְרַיִם סְבִיבֹת הַיְאֹר, מַיִם לִשְׁתּוֹת: כִּי לֹא יָכְלוּ לִשְׁתֹּת, מִמֵּימֵי הַיְאֹר.
 

7:25
After God struck the Nile, [it remained that way] for seven full days.
Vayimale shiv’at yamim acharey hakot-Adonay et-haYe’or.
וַיִּמָּלֵא, שִׁבְעַת יָמִים, אַחֲרֵי הַכּוֹת-יְהוָה, אֶת-הַיְאֹר.
 

7:26
God said to Moses, ‘Go to Pharaoh and say to him in My name, ‘Let My people leave so they can serve Me.
Vayomer Adonay el-Moshe bo el-Par’oh ve’amarta elav koh amar Adonay shalach et-ami veya’avduni.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, בֹּא אֶל-פַּרְעֹה; וְאָמַרְתָּ אֵלָיו, כֹּה אָמַר יְהוָה, שַׁלַּח אֶת-עַמִּי, וְיַעַבְדֻנִי.
 

7:27
If you refuse to let them leave, I will strike all your territories with frogs.
Ve’im-ma’en atah leshale’ach hineh anochi nogef et-kol-gevulecha batsfarde’im.
וְאִם-מָאֵן אַתָּה, לְשַׁלֵּחַ: הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי, נֹגֵף אֶת-כָּל-גְּבוּלְךָ–בַּצְפַרְדְּעִים.
 

7:28
The Nile will swarm with frogs, and when they emerge, they will be in your palace, in your bedroom, and [even] in your bed. [They will also be in] the homes of your officials and people, even in your ovens and kneading bowls.
Vesharats haYe’or tsfarde’im ve’alu uva’u beveytecha uvachadar mishkavcha ve’al-mitatecha uveveyt avadeycha uve’amecha uvetanureycha uvemish’aroteycha.
וְשָׁרַץ הַיְאֹר, צְפַרְדְּעִים, וְעָלוּ וּבָאוּ בְּבֵיתֶךָ, וּבַחֲדַר מִשְׁכָּבְךָ וְעַל-מִטָּתֶךָ; וּבְבֵית עֲבָדֶיךָ וּבְעַמֶּךָ, וּבְתַנּוּרֶיךָ וּבְמִשְׁאֲרוֹתֶיךָ.
 

7:29
When the frogs emerge, they will be all over you, your people, and your officials.’
Uvecha uve’amecha uvechol-avadeycha ya’alu hatsfarde’im.
וּבְכָה וּבְעַמְּךָ, וּבְכָל-עֲבָדֶיךָ–יַעֲלוּ, הַצְפַרְדְּעִים.
 

8:1
God said to Moses, ‘Tell Aaron to point the staff in his hand at the rivers, canals and reservoirs, and he will make frogs emerge upon Egypt.’
Vayomer Adonay el-Moshe emor el-Aharon neteh et-yadcha bematecha al-haneharot al-haye’orim ve’al-ha’agamim veha’al et-hatsfarde’im al-erets Mitsrayim.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה, אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, אֱמֹר אֶל-אַהֲרֹן נְטֵה אֶת-יָדְךָ בְּמַטֶּךָ, עַל-הַנְּהָרֹת עַל-הַיְאֹרִים וְעַל-הָאֲגַמִּים; וְהַעַל אֶת-הַצְפַרְדְּעִים, עַל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם.
 

8:2
Aaron held his hand out over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs emerged, covering Egypt.
Vayet Aharon et-yado al meymey Mitsrayim vata’al hatsfardea vatechas et-erets Mitsrayim.
וַיֵּט אַהֲרֹן אֶת-יָדוֹ, עַל מֵימֵי מִצְרָיִם; וַתַּעַל, הַצְּפַרְדֵּעַ, וַתְּכַס, אֶת-אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם.
 

8:3
The master symbolists were able to produce the same effect with their hidden arts, making frogs emerge on Egyptian land.
Vaya’asu-chen hachartumim belateyhem vaya’alu et-hatsfarde’im al-erets Mitsrayim.
וַיַּעֲשׂוּ-כֵן הַחַרְטֻמִּים, בְּלָטֵיהֶם; וַיַּעֲלוּ אֶת-הַצְפַרְדְּעִים, עַל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם.
 

8:4
Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron, and said, ‘Pray to God! Let Him get the frogs away from me and my people. I will let the people leave and sacrifice to God.’
Vayikra Far’oh le-Moshe ule-Aharon vayomer hatiru el-Adonay veyaser hatsfarde’im mimeni ume’ami va’ashalechah et-ha’am veyizbechu la’Adonay.
וַיִּקְרָא פַרְעֹה לְמֹשֶׁה וּלְאַהֲרֹן, וַיֹּאמֶר הַעְתִּירוּ אֶל-יְהוָה, וְיָסֵר הַצְפַרְדְּעִים, מִמֶּנִּי וּמֵעַמִּי; וַאֲשַׁלְּחָה, אֶת-הָעָם, וְיִזְבְּחוּ, לַיהוָה.
 

8:5
‘Try and test me,’ replied Moses. ‘Exactly when shall I pray for you, your officials and your people? The frogs will [immediately] depart from you and your homes, remaining only in the Nile.’
Vayomer Moshe le-Far’oh hitpa’er alay lematay atir lecha vela’avadeycha ule’amecha lehachrit hatsfarde’im mimecha umibateycha rak baYe’or tisha’arnah.
וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה לְפַרְעֹה, הִתְפָּאֵר עָלַי, לְמָתַי אַעְתִּיר לְךָ וְלַעֲבָדֶיךָ וּלְעַמְּךָ, לְהַכְרִית הַצְפַרְדְּעִים מִמְּךָ וּמִבָּתֶּיךָ: רַק בַּיְאֹר, תִּשָּׁאַרְנָה.
 

8:6
‘Tomorrow!’ said [Pharaoh]. ‘As you say,’ replied [Moses]. ‘You will then know that there is none like God our Lord.
Vayomer lemachar vayomer kidvareycha lema’an teda ki-eyn k’Adonay Eloheynu.
וַיֹּאמֶר, לְמָחָר; וַיֹּאמֶר, כִּדְבָרְךָ–לְמַעַן תֵּדַע, כִּי-אֵין כַּיהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ.
